Position Summary

The Ottawa Area ISD is seeking a Data Infrastructure Engineer to join the Innovation, Technology, Information, and Security (ITIS) Division as a member of the Information Services Team. The Data Infrastructure Engineer will design, implement, and maintain a modern enterprise data infrastructure with a focus on data ingestion and processing. This position is responsible for ensuring the data infrastructure is scalable, secure, and efficient. The Information Services Team will work closely with ITIS staff and a variety of data consumers to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that enhance data accessibility, integrity, and usability to support data-driven decision making, improve student outcomes, and enhance operational efficiency.

Essential Job Functions
  • Design, architect, implement, manage, and continuously innovate a robust modern enterprise data infrastructure, applying strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate system performance and drive improvements.
  • Develop and maintain scalable data ingestion and processing pipelines that populate the data infrastructure from various enterprise sources, leveraging proficiency with ETL cloud-based tools and platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
  • Design and implement systems to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and security in compliance with district policies, educational regulations, and applicable state and federal laws, applying knowledge of data privacy and security best practices.
  • Collaborate with the current Data Engineer and ITIS team members to share knowledge, coordinate development efforts, and continuously improve data infrastructure capabilities.
  • Partner with educational staff, administrators, and other data consumers to understand data needs and translate them into effective technical solutions, demonstrating the ability to convey complex data insights to non-technical audiences with patience and clarity.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes and operational efficiency, integrating BI tools and AI resources within the modern data warehouse environment as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Technology, or a related field; and/or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience building or managing an enterprise data infrastructure; K-12 or higher education setting preferred.


Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency with ETL cloud-based tools and experience with AWS (including AWS Glue), Azure, Google Cloud, and/or other cloud platforms.
  • Experience with databases and data warehousing concepts, and knowledge of best practices for integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) resources in a modern data warehouse environment.
  • Programming and scripting skills, with working knowledge of BI tools and their integration with modern data architectures.
  • Knowledge of data privacy and security best practices and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, manage multiple projects concurrently, and demonstrate creative problem-solving with a commitment to continuous learning.


Physical & Environmental Requirements
  • Primarily office work environment; occasional lifting of equipment up to 25 pounds may be required with or without mechanical assistance.
  • Requires manual dexterity sufficient for extended keyboard and computer use; ability to read data on monitors for extended periods.
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment; occasional travel between district sites may be required.


Compensation & Employment Details
  • Salary range: Range of $71,552-$89,440 commensurate with experience.
  • Work schedule: Full-time, Full year, 261 days
