The Loudoun County Department of Information Technology (DIT) is currently seeking a talented, highly motivated individual to serve as Data Engineer for the County's applications. The Data Engineer will be responsible for ensuring data accessibility across the organization and for collecting and transforming raw data into information that can be used by various key business stakeholders. The successful candidate must be proficient in handling a high-level complex workload, as well as being flexible to ongoing changes. Must be able to work independently and collaboratively with key stakeholders.
Job Summary
The job would require strong SQL and Python programming skills and analytical skills. Specific job requirements include:

• Manages IT and systems development projects, as assigned
• Gather and process data that meet functional and non-functional business requirements.
• Setup ETL data pipelines. Integrate data from internal systems, APIs, third-party tools, and cloud platforms
• Evaluate new data sources for acquisition and integration.
• Collaborate with internal business resources and technical teams/SMEs to understand various data sources and assist with populating the metadata catalog.
• Keep data separated and secure based on Data Governance guidelines.
• Apply Medallion Architecture principles (Bronze/Silver/Gold layers) to design scalable, organized, and high-quality data pipelines.
• Experience performing root cause analysis on data processes to meet business requirements. Identify opportunities for improvement of existing data processes.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to maintain high-quality engineering standards.
• Implement CI/CD practices (e.g., Git with GITHUB) for data engineering projects, ensuring robust deployment and testing of data solutions
• Requires:

  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills.

Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science or related field; three (3) years of experience demonstrating the job tasks illustrated.

Preferable skills:

• Python experience and PowerBI experience.
• Technical expertise in SQL server is strongly preferred.
• Experience in Data Engineering practices with various cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google etc. highly preferred. Experience with Oracle a plus.
• Experience in using various modelling tools such as TOAD, Microsoft Visio is preferable.

Any certification or work related to Database management is highly desirable.
