Responsible for the design, development, maintenance, and documentation of data programming objects, reports, and ETL processes within the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Examples of Work

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Data Pipeline & ETL/ELT Development: Build, optimize, and maintain reliable data pipelines to ingest diverse data sources (APIs, SFTPs, transactional databases, etc.) and define efficient transformation workflows.
  • Database Design & Data Modeling: Design and architect small-scale databases, objects, and relational schemas, ensuring clean data models, production tables, and staging areas within the data warehouse environment.
  • Data Transformation & Performance Tuning: Write clean and performant SQL scripts to transform raw data into business-ready datasets while optimizing queries, stored procedures, and table indexes.
  • Workflow Automation & Orchestration: Schedule, monitor, and manage automated server jobs and data workflows to ensure consistent, timely data delivery and system operational standards.
  • Database Operations & DBA Support: Partner with the Database Administrator (DBA) to maintain security compliance, establish system standards, and manage ongoing administrative maintenance.
  • Data Quality & System Troubleshooting: Implement automated testing, validation checks, and monitoring systems to safeguard data accuracy, while actively debugging pipeline failures or discrepancies to minimize downtime.
  • Reporting & Analytics Support: Develop and maintain standardized reports using enterprise reporting engines (e.g., SSRS/SQL Server Reporting Services) to support business needs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaboratively support application developers, data analysts, and business teams to gather requirements, deliver actionable datasets, and evaluate emerging technologies with external vendors.
  • Full Lifecycle Development: Actively participate in all phases of the database development lifecycle (DBLC), including planning, design, analysis, coding, testing, deployment, and ongoing production support.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required Candidate Technical Skills, Knowledge, and Proficiencies:

  • Thorough understanding of a database language e.g. SQL.
  • Understanding of client-server computing
  • Experience with data management
  • Knowledge of reporting and query tools
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle
  • Understanding of development in a multi-system environment
  • Familiar with warehousing and analysis
  • Basic understanding of SQL Server configuration and server environment
  • Understanding of ETL processes
Open Requirements/Supplemental Information

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent work experience

1-5 years IT operation with understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices

1-5 years Microsoft SQL Server experience or comparable enterprise DB experience

Programming Proficiency: Strong operational knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL programming language. Experience with Phyton is a plus.

 

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work during limited emergency declarations as prescribed by the City of Jacksonville Civil Service and Personnel Rules and Regulations Rules.
  • Must be available to respond to telephone calls, meetings, and unexpected situations outside of normal work hours until situations are resolved.
  • Must maintain existing knowledge and skills through continuing education.
  • Must have a personal standard of high attention to detail in all work tasks.
  • Must work well as part of a team and/or as an individual depending on the task at hand.
  • Must be flexible with changing, and often unexpected, work demands to meet the operational needs of the agency.
