Full Job Description

Data Center Technician - Senior provides senior-level operational support for SEC ISS data center services, ensuring reliable, secure, and well-documented infrastructure operations. This role leads day-to-day execution of data center activities across headquarters, primary, alternate, and smaller regional-site data centers, including hardware moves/adds/changes, rack/power/cabling coordination, and continuous updates to inventory and capacity records. In alignment with the PWS, the position supports capacity, configuration, and availability reporting across SEC data center environments and maintains readiness for 24x7x365 emergency response requirements, including 2-hour response for urgent incidents as requested by the SEC. The role works directly with system architecture and operations teams to execute System Change Requests accurately and on schedule using enterprise change, configuration, and service management platforms.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Center Operations and Reporting

- Perform daily data center operations to support SEC infrastructure across primary, alternate, headquarters, and smaller regional-site data center environments.

- Provide daily status updates and weekly reporting, including capacity reports, workflow reports, schematics, environmental reports, and inventory reports.

- Track and report floor space, rack space, power, and cooling utilization using industry-standard measures (e.g., watts, amps, U-space) to support planning and reliability.

- Maintain operational and as-built documentation for data centers, LAN rooms, data closets, and server rooms to support service availability, reliability, and audit readiness.

Infrastructure Moves, Adds, and Changes

- Manage and schedule all hardware moves/adds/changes (MAC) for data center equipment and racks.

- Coordinate and fulfill power and cabling requests, including rack build-outs and physical connectivity updates.

- Update wire maps, rack details, and installation documentation to reflect current as-built configurations.

- Support emergency data center requests as requested by the SEC in accordance with SEC ISS operational response expectations, including 24x7x365 coverage and 2-hour response timelines.

Configuration and Service Management

- Use change/configuration management systems (such as TeamTrack and CMDB platforms) to create, update, and reconcile data center records.

- Use service management systems (such as ServiceNow) to track requests, incidents, and work status through completion.

- Maintain NLyte (or equivalent DCIM tooling) records for workflow tracking, asset status, and capacity management.

- Ensure accuracy and consistency of inventory, configuration, and workflow data across all operational systems.

Architecture and Change Implementation Support

- Work directly with system architecture teams to produce installation documents and implementation support artifacts.

- Validate requirements, dependencies, and implementation details for System Change Request execution.

- Provide implementation progress, risk/issue status, and completion updates to stakeholders.

- Coordinate with adjacent infrastructure teams to ensure change activities are executed safely and within approved windows.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Citizenship/Work Authorization: Must meet contract requirements.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain SEC Public Trust (or higher if required).

Education: Bachelors degree in a relevant field (e.g., Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering) required.

Experience:

- 10+ years of related experience in data center management and operations.

- Demonstrated experience using change and configuration management database systems (such as TeamTrack) and service management systems (such as ServiceNow).

- Must possess a Certified Data Center Engineer certification or equivalent.

Technical Skills:

- Data center capacity, configuration, and availability reporting

- Hardware lifecycle operations, including moves/adds/changes (MAC)

- Rack, power, cooling, and structured cabling coordination

- CMDB/change control and IT service management workflows

- Inventory management, wire map documentation, and rack schematics

- NLyte (or equivalent DCIM platform) for tracking status, workflow, and capacity

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience supporting SEC or other U.S. federal civilian agency data center operations.

- Experience in 24x7x365 operations with rapid response support for critical infrastructure issues.

- ITIL 4 Foundation (or equivalent IT service management certification).

- Experience building automated dashboards or recurring reports for capacity, availability, and utilization metrics.

- Experience supporting disaster recovery and continuity-of-operations (COOP) activities across multiple data center sites.

- ITIL 4 Foundation, ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA), Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Specialist (ATS) or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT / OTHER

Operational Support: May require participation in on-call or surge support activities depending on operational needs, including 24x7x365 emergency response and 2-hour response expectations as requested by the SEC.

Location: On-site at SEC HQ, Washington, DC and Telework.

Travel: As required per contract direction.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $92,300.00 - $166,850.00
