Full Job Description
Description

About the Mission

The Army Software Factory (ASWF) in Austin is one of the most ambitious software initiatives in the federal government. We operate like a modern, high-growth technology startup embedded within the military, transforming active-duty Soldiers into software engineers through real-world, production-level development.

We don't just build software to support the mission; we build the people who build the software. We utilize modern methodologies like Extreme Programming (XP), Lean Product Development, and User-Centered Design (UCD) inside cross-functional, balanced teams.

Responsibilities

The Data Architect provides architecture, design, engineering, and management support services to the Chief Data Officer to enable ASWF to create and maintain data pipeline architectures to automate the processing of large complex data sets.

Qualifications
  • 10 years of experience with at least 3 years’ DOD experience.
  • Knowledge of DoD and Army data (including metadata) administration and data standardization policies and standards.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities and functionality associated with various technologies for organizing and managing data at rest and in transit.
  • Knowledge of the characteristics of physical and virtual data storage media.
  • Ability to analyze and plan for anticipated changes in data capacity requirement and determine, recommend, and plan the development of a new application or modification of an existing application.
  • Ability to provide recommendations on new database technologies and architectures.
  • Ability to advise higher level leadership on critical data architecture and management issues.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing deployment models in private, public, and hybrid environments and the difference between on-premises and off-premises environments.
  • Knowledge of data operations (DataOps) processes and best practices.
  • Ability to design the best approach and architecture for automated data labeling and data lifecycle.
  • Knowledge of how commercial and federal solutions solve Defense-related data environment and platform challenges.
  • Knowledge of Personally Identifiable Information (PII), National Security System (NSS), and Personal Health Information (PHI) data security standards.
  • Clearance Note:
    • Interim Secret Clearance Required: Because of the mission context, candidates must be eligible to obtain an Interim Secret clearance to start. Don't let this deter you if you don't currently hold one—we support and guide qualified candidates entirely through the clearance process.
