This is a full-time, on-site located at any FirstEnergy location; Akron, Ohio is preferred.FirstEnergy takes a market-based approach to pay, which may vary depending on your location. In addition, your actual base salary will depend on various factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience.
The estimated pay range for this role is $71,400 - $112,200. The pay range for certain locations, including the state of New Jersey, include a 20% differential to account for an increased cost of living, making the pay range for NJ $85,680 - $134,640.
SummaryThis position sits within the Customer Programs & Solutions organization and supports the design, regulatory approval, implementation planning, and evolution of customer-facing energy programs aligned with the energy transition. The team focuses on electrification, distributed energy resources (DER), electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure, demand response (DR), virtual power plants (VPP), and emerging technologies that improve customer outcomes while supporting grid modernization and regulatory objectives.
The Analyst will serve as an individual contributor supporting regulatory strategy, program development, and stakeholder engagement activities. This role works across a distributed, matrixed organization and contributes to initiatives that are often first-of-kind, evolving, and developed in a fluid regulatory and policy environment.
Responsibilities Include:- Support the design, development, and regulatory approval of customer programs related to electrification, DER, EV infrastructure, demand response, VPP, and emerging technologies.
- Conduct business-specific and strategic research; analyze and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information; interpret results; and translate findings into clear recommendations and deliverables.
- Support development of regulatory filings and associated materials (e.g., testimony, exhibits, workpapers, discovery responses, comments, presentations), coordinating inputs across internal partners.
- Support cost-benefit analysis and economic assessments, including building conceptual frameworks, reviewing consultant-prepared analyses, validating assumptions, and translating results into regulatory-ready narratives.
- Support program funding, budget development, and recoverability strategies, including familiarity with rate structures, riders/trackers, pilots, and rate design fundamentals as they relate to program design and cost recovery.
- Lead or support discrete project-based workstreams: build and maintain workplans, coordinate timelines and dependencies, track deliverables, and support on-time, high-quality submissions.
- Collaborate across cross-functional and matrixed teams (Legal, Rates, Engineering, Operations, Finance, IT, Program Delivery, vendors, and external partners) to advance program objectives.
- Support vendor and partner coordination related to program development, analysis, evaluation/EM&V planning, compliance, and performance reporting.
- Develop and maintain program documentation (e.g., requirements, process maps, implementation plans, risk logs, decision records) and identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and repeatability.
- Conduct benchmarking of peer utilities and industry programs to identify best practices, performance metrics, cost drivers, and regulatory approaches that inform program design and regulatory positioning.
- Represent the Company's interests in internal and external working groups, stakeholder forums, and collaborative processes, consistent with established Company positions and guidance.
- Contribute effectively in ambiguous or rapidly evolving environments, including pilot programs, phased implementations, and proceedings without established precedents.
Qualifications Include:- Two year degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Engineering or a related discipline is preferred, along with a minimum of 4 years related work experience.
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years of direct, related experience will be considered.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct research, analyze data, interpret results, and provide sound recommendations.
- Strong organizational and written communication skills; ability to prepare clear materials for internal and external audiences.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort learning additional tools/systems.
- Ability to work effectively across cross-functional, distributed, and matrixed organizations.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities across jurisdictions, balancing differing timelines, policy objectives, and stakeholder considerations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including preparation of regulatory, executive, and stakeholder-facing materials.

Preferred/Differentiating Experience The following experience is preferred and will be considered a differentiator, but is not required:
- Experience with EV infrastructure programs (light-duty, medium/heavy-duty, and specialty use cases such as electric school buses).
- Experience engaging with state regulatory commissions (e.g., MD PSC, NJ BPU) including work groups, stakeholder processes, and discovery support.
- Experience supporting regulatory proceedings, including program reporting, testimony development, , discovery responses, comments, and coordination with intervenors and stakeholders.
- Experience designing, implementing, or managing energy efficiency, demand response, DER, smart thermostat, or VPP programs.
- Familiarity with Evaluation, Measurement, and Verification (EM&V) concepts (evaluability, EM&V planning, evaluator coordination, and interpretation of findings).
- Experience with policy and legislative review, including analysis of proposed or enacted legislation, regulatory orders, and policy developments.
- Ability to translate emerging or nascent technologies and trends into scalable, customer-facing utility programs.
- Exposure to rate design fundamentals, regulatory economics, or cost recovery mechanisms.
