CTD Technical Director and Production Manager for Center Series, Community, and Campus Events

Williams College is seeking an experienced and collaborative technical theatre professional to serve in a two-year, full-time term position as the CTD Technical Director and Production Manager for CenterSeries, Campus & Community Events. This essential role provides technical leadership for performances and events in the '62 Center for Theatre and Dance, overseeing technical direction, production management, and lighting operations while supporting the Center's artistic, academic, and community engagement mission.

This position serves as the Technical Director and Production Manager for CenterSeries, campus, and community events, Technical Director for the Dance Department, and Lighting Manager for the '62 Center. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, visiting artists, and community partners to ensure exceptional production quality and a safe, efficient, and welcoming performance environment.

Key Responsibilities:

CenterSeries Technical Direction & Production Management

• Serve as a member of the CenterSeries Committee.
• Coordinate technical production requirements with visiting artists, including negotiating production needs, fees, and expenses.
• Manage CenterSeries and '62 Center production budgets in collaboration with department leadership.
• Oversee all technical aspects of productions, including load-in, rehearsals, performances, strike, and post-event restoration.

Campus & Community Events

• Provide technical leadership and consultation for campus and community events held in the '62 Center.
• Coordinate technical staffing and production support.
• Serve as the primary technical contact during events, including show operation responsibilities such as lighting control and backstage management.
• Ensure event spaces are restored and production equipment is properly maintained following each event.

Lighting Management

• Serve as the subject matter expert for theatrical lighting systems and rigging.
• Maintain, repair, and manage the Center's lighting inventory and related equipment.
• Create, analyze, and update lighting documentation using Vectorworks and Lightwright.
• Oversee lighting installation, cabling, patching, networking, and system maintenance.
• Train and mentor students in the operation of ETC Eos family lighting consoles and production best practices.

Dance Department Technical Direction

• Partner with Dance faculty, guest artists, and directors to assess production needs and execute scenic, lighting, and technical elements for dance performances.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

• Extensive hands-on experience in technical theatre production, theatrical lighting, rigging, and stage operations.
• Advanced knowledge of ETC Eos family lighting consoles, DMX networking, theatrical electrical systems, and industry safety standards.
• Experience using Vectorworks and Lightwright to create and maintain technical drawings and production documentation.
• Strong project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple productions, manage budgets, negotiate production agreements, and prioritize competing deadlines.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, staff, students, visiting artists, and community partners.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as production schedules require.
• Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and work safely at heights using ladders and personnel lifts.

Application review will begin on August 21, 2026 and continue until the position is filled.  Pay range is from $82,500 to $95,000, commensurate with experience. This full-time, two-year term position is eligible for Williams College’s robust benefits package designed to support you in your work and overall health and wellness.
