ROLE OVERVIEWThiess is seeking an experienced and commercially driven Country Director - Canada to lead and grow our operations across the region. Based in either Sudbury or Toronto, this executive leadership role will be responsible for strategic growth, client engagement, and the continued expansion of Thiess' presence in Canada. The initial focus will be to win new work and progressively take on operations responsibility as the number of active projects grows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead Thiess's Canada Strategy with a focus on growth and client value delivery
- Provide executive leadership across multiple projects and business initiatives within the region
- Partner closely with New Work and executive leadership teams to identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, industry stakeholders, and key partners across the mining sector.
- Drive safe, efficient, and cost-effective operational performance aligned with contractual and financial objectives
- Oversee operational planning, resource allocation, and performance management to ensure delivery against targets and business objectives
- Champion a proactive safety culture through visible leadership and an unwavering commitment to the health, safety, and wellbeing of employees, contractors, and partners across all operations.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR- Executive leadership experience within mining or heavy industrial operations
- Strong understanding of mining operations, project delivery and operational planning, ideally both in open pit and underground operations
- Demonstrated success leading geographically dispersed teams and complex operations
- Commercially astute with strong financial, contractual, and business development capabilities
- Ability to influence executive and client leadership levels
- Competence in financial and mine planning
- Proficient commercial and contractual acumen
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities
- Cost control and financial accounting skills
- Passion for people leadership, team development, and succession planning
- Experience Driving safety culture and operational excellence in high-risk environments
- Adaptable, collaborative, and solutions-oriented leadership style
- Strong communicator with exceptional stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills
EDUCATION- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline preferred
- Significant senior leadership experience within mining or related heavy industry sectors
- Experience managing large-scale operational teams and multiple business priorities
- Demonstrated experience in operational leadership, project delivery, and commercial management
- PMP or equivalent project leadership certification considered an asset
- Authorization to work in Canada without sponsorship required
- Fluent in English; French language capability considered an asset

The salary range for this role is minimum $270,000 to a maximum of $300,000 CAD. The salary range is provided in good faith and is representative of all experience levels. Thiess considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills and is ultimately determined at management's discretion.
