Full Job Description
The primary purpose of this position is to provide legal advice and strategic counsel to business leaders on a broad array of property and casualty insurance matters in admitted and surplus lines of business, including regulatory and insurance compliance, market conduct and other exams, insurance filings, insurance-related transactions such as reinsurance arrangements, distribution and delegated authority agreements, and agreements for claims administration and other insurance services. This position requires a practical business-oriented attorney who can balance legal risk with commercial objectives in a highly regulated environment. How You Will Make an Impact: • Provide legal counsel on a variety of insurance matters for both admitted and surplus lines, including insurance regulatory compliance requirements, market conduct exams, financial and operational exams, producer and adjuster licensing issues, and consumer complaint responses. • Support the preparation, review, and submission of regulatory filings, as needed, including on rate and form filings, change of control and holding company filings, withdrawal plans, regulatory notices and investments. • Advise business leaders on legal and regulatory implications of strategic initiatives, new products, and operational changes, as well as on (re)insurance regulatory and compliance matters. • Review, draft, and negotiate intercompany reinsurance agreements, ceded and assumed reinsurance agreements, MGA agreements, claims administration agreements, and other (re)insurance-related agreements. • Conduct legal and regulatory research to help ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations. • Monitor relevant legal and regulatory developments across applicable jurisdictions. • Maintain knowledge of organization's operations and legal documents. • Working knowledge of data privacy and cybersecurity laws and negotiation • Partner with relevant supporting functions to ensure that where legal risks have been identified, appropriate processes have been implemented, or courses of action have been taken to effectively mitigate risk. • Perform any additional tasks or functions as may be required by the General Counsel. • Effectively collaborate with members of the Legal and Compliance team and other departments to ensure consistency in legal advice across the Company and provide top-notch customer service. • Work independently with attention to detail. • Apply legal knowledge and insight to all aspects of the business. • Function with a high degree of professionalism, respect for others and the business, ethics, and integrity. What We Need: • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience as an attorney with a focus on insurance compliance and regulatory work. • Active and in good standing with a bar in the United States. • Strong foundation in insurance law matters. • Ability to research insurance laws and regulations, and relevant case law, and ability to interpret and apply same. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. • Attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Demonstrated ability to provide practical, strategic, and solutions-driven legal advice. The base salary range provided below is for hires in those geographic areas only and will be commensurate with candidate experience. Pay ranges for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location.
