OverviewThis role is responsible for supporting safety risk management and compliance within the Rail North America rail car and locomotive maintenance network. The position contributes to the safety of our employees, contractors, visitors and the surrounding community in practice with our Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and GATX Rail North American EHS objectives, targets and goals. The position will support the strategic reduction of safety risk via a proactive, cross-functional and continuous improvement approach. The position also supports safety compliance and training within our facilities and for supporting EHS resources throughout the network. While Chicago-based candidates are preferred, applications from candidates who are able to work remotely elsewhere are also welcome.
Responsibilities
- Drive day-to-day safety program, including completion and review of monthly/quarterly metrics, standard work instruction (SWI) development, compliance tasks, correction action closures. Lead annual safety initiatives, oversight of capital project risks, and collaboration in standardization projects.
- Lead and support injury management process, incident investigations and corrective actions throughout the network. Ensure implemented initiatives are completed timely and sustained.
- Provide on-site support within our maintenance facilities for internal EHS audits, projects, initiatives, training and EHS resource onboarding & development.
- Maintain and continuously improve GATX safety programs, policies, and training content to achieve safety risk and compliance objectives. Monitor regulations andindustry advances to improve safety performance and compliance within our network.
- Evaluate site adherence to GATX Programs (e.g., observations and inspections). Analyze site data to facilitate proactive risk management opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree with concentration in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Operations or related field, or associates degree with equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a production or corporate environment with safety responsibility (or equivalent in safety consulting role) with demonstrated results.
- Rail or railcar maintenance experience a plus.
- Proven ability to execute assigned projects or tasks independently.
- Proven experience effectively delivering safety training.
- Working knowledge of US and/or Canadian safety regulations, typical safety metrics and Workers Compensation procedures.
- Responsible Care Management System (RCMS), SafeStart or ETQ experience is a plus.
- Union experience is a plus.
- Effective interpersonal and communications skills - able to prepare and present recommendations and decisions in a professional, clear and concise manner.

As of the post date, the salary range for this position is:
MinUSD $111,800.00/Yr.
MaxUSD $138,000.00/Yr.
This role may be eligible to participate in the Companys short-term incentive plan, the details of which will be provided to the applicant upon hire.
This range is a reasonable estimate and takes into account several factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set, experience, education, training, internal equity, and other business needs.
