We are seeking a Corporate Credit Director to assess the Company's credit and collections function across a decentralized, multi-location organization. This role will be responsible for assessing customer creditworthiness, strengthening credit policies and procedures, improving customer onboarding processes, supporting cash flow objectives, and ensuring consistent execution across operations in the U.S. and Canada. The ideal candidate will partner closely with Finance, Sales, Operations, Treasury, and plant leadership to support revenue growth while protecting the business from unnecessary credit risk, bad debt exposure, collection challenges, and working capital disruption.
Responsibilities:- Establish and manage credit limits and payment terms in line with company policy and risk tolerance.
- Manage credit insurance requirements, including evaluating coverage needs, monitoring insured credit limits, coordinating policy compliance, and supporting claims documentation when required.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and proactively manage collections to minimize past due balances and bad debt.
- Partner with Finance and Treasury to support cash flow management by improving collections performance, forecasting customer payment trends, reducing past due balances, and identifying risks that may affect working capital.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers to facilitate payment resolution and build trust.
- Partner with the sales team to address credit issues and support strategic customer relationships.
- Create, maintain, communicate, and enforce strong credit policies and procedures that promote consistency, compliance, scalability, and appropriate risk controls across all business units and locations.
- Lead credit and collections activity in a decentralized environment, coordinating with teammates and stakeholders spread throughout the U.S. and Canada to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely issue resolution.
- Provide leadership, coaching, guidance, and escalation support to both direct reports and indirect credit resources supporting approximately 27 plant locations.
- Operate effectively across multiple ERP platforms, ensuring credit data, customer master information, credit holds, payment terms, and reporting are accurate, timely, and consistently maintained.
- Recommend and execute legal or third-party actions on delinquent accounts when necessary.
- Coordinate bankruptcy-related credit and collections activity, including filing proof of claims, supporting preference action defenses, evaluating critical vendor considerations, and working with internal stakeholders and outside counsel as needed.
- Collaborate with auditors and provide necessary documentation during internal and external audits.
- Generate and present reports on AR status, credit exposure, and risk analysis to senior leadership.
- Establish, maintain, and report credit and collections KPIs for senior leadership, including metrics related to DSO, aging trends, past due balances, credit exposure, collections effectiveness, bad debt risk, and policy compliance.
- Support accounts receivable securitization requirements by ensuring eligible receivables, reporting, customer documentation, dispute tracking, credit memo activity, and compliance-related data are accurate and available for internal stakeholders and external financing partners.
- Evaluate customer creditworthiness using financial analysis, credit reports, trade references, and internal risk assessments.
- Review and interpret commercial credit reports and risk indicators from Experian, Dun & Bradstreet, CreditSafe, trade references, financial statements, and internal payment history to make sound credit decisions.
- Support and improve customer onboarding workflows, including the use of credit automation tools such as Bectran, digital credit applications, bureau integrations, approval routing, documentation requirements, and ongoing customer risk monitoring.
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in credit management, preferably in a manufacturing or B2B environment.
- Strong understanding of credit principles, financial statement analysis, and risk evaluation.
- Knowledge of credit insurance programs, including insured limits, policy requirements, claims support, and coordination with insurers or brokers.
- Understanding of cash flow management, working capital impact, collections forecasting, and how accounts receivable performance supports broader financial objectives.
- Familiarity with accounts receivable securitization requirements, including receivable eligibility, reporting accuracy, customer dispute tracking, documentation controls, and compliance support.
- Experience working across multiple ERP systems and credit/collections technology platforms; ability to navigate fragmented data environments and standardize processes where possible.
- Experience with Bectran or similar customer onboarding, credit application, credit workflow, and credit automation tools is a plus.
- Demonstrated experience reading, interpreting, and evaluating commercial credit reports from Experian, Dun & Bradstreet, CreditSafe, and other credit data providers.
- Proven ability to create, maintain, and enforce credit policies and procedures across a complex, multi-location organization.
- Experience leading teams in a decentralized environment, including both direct reports and indirect resources located across multiple plants, regions, or business units.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with lien rights and collections laws is a plus.
- Knowledge of bankruptcy laws and creditor rights, including proof of claim filings, preference action defenses, critical vendor status, and coordination with legal counsel on bankruptcy matters.
- Advanced Excel skills for financial modeling and data analysis.
- Ability to establish, track, analyze, and communicate credit and collections KPIs for senior leadership, including performance trends, risks, and recommended actions.
