Full Job Description
Arnett & Burgess (A&B) is currently looking to add a Corporate Controller to our team, based in Calgary OR Blackfalds, AB.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, we are seeking an experienced financial leader with deep construction accounting expertise to oversee all financial operations, reporting, and compliance for Arnett & Burgess Energy Services. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, the development of a high-performing finance team, and serving as a trusted strategic partner to senior management and operations leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Accounting
  • Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with ASPE, including full ownership of the month-end and year-end close process
  • Manage general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and job costing functions; ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and in compliance with GAAP
  • Prepare and present financial reports and variance analyses to senior management and ownership, including KPI dashboards and performance commentary
  • Oversee preparation of CRA remittances including GST/HST, payroll source deductions, and T4/T5018 filings; liaise with external auditors and tax advisors on year-end audit and corporate tax filings

Project Accounting & Controls
  • Oversee project accounting including job cost reporting, WIP schedules, revenue recognition, and project profitability analysis in a construction environment
  • Implement and maintain robust internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
  • Support project managers and operations leadership with financial analysis, cost reviews, and contract billing in accordance with project terms
  • Monitor cash flow, manage banking relationships, and oversee working capital including AR aging, AP terms, and holdback management

Leadership & Strategic Partnership
  • Lead, develop, and mentor the finance team including AP, AR, payroll, and project accounting staff; build a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement
  • Partner with senior management and operations to provide financial insights that support business decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Drive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reporting accuracy
  • Support due diligence, contract reviews, and special projects as required by the CFO and senior leadership

Requirements
  • Post-Secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
    • an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
  • CPA designation
  • Demonstrated experience in construction or project-based accounting including job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition
  • Strong knowledge of ASPE and Canadian tax compliance including GST/HST, payroll remittances, and corporate tax
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proven leadership and team development experience

Preferred Skills / Qualifications
  • Experience in the oil and gas services, pipeline, or energy construction industry
  • Experience with Eclipse or similar construction ERP as well as Power BI, Tableau, or other AI-enabled reporting tools
  • Experience with multi-entity or intercompany accounting
  • Familiarity with construction contract types including lump sum, unit rate, and time and materials

The salary range for this position is $130,000 - $150,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
