About the role:

Reporting to the Environmental Lead, the Coordinator, Environment is responsible for compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, primarily with our air permit and waste permit issued under the Environmental Management Act, as well as with the provincial Spill Reporting Regulations. This includes coordination and execution of environmental management programs, monitoring programs, internal and external reporting requirements, and other deliverables.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on site at an operating surface steel-making coal mine, with a portion of your time spent in the field.

To be successful, we are looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication, who can effectively build and foster relationships with other departments while engaging with communities of interest and professionals at all levels of the organization for the purpose of influencing and implementing continuous improvement. In addition, strong problem-solving, critical thinking, organizational, time management, and analytical skills as well as someone who is self-motivated and passionate and has the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are vital for this role.

In this role you will:

  • Participate in and adhere to health and safety programs and policies
  • Have a strong understanding of all applicable permits, management plans, and associated regulatory compliance requirements
  • Coordinate the completion of all environmental management programs and monitoring programs, including field work execution, as required
  • Analyze field and analytical data to track compliance performance and prepare various professional reports and applications for submission internally and to government agencies
  • Foster strong relationships with our Communities of Interest
  • Support operating departments in managing and reporting on spills
  • Supervise contractors to ensure work is being conducted safely and in accordance with project or program scope
  • Develop and implement budgets and track costs
  • Drive continual improvement of environmental performance and regulatory compliance


Requirements:

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering or Environmental Science, or other related subject area, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum three years demonstrated ability in the field of environmental compliance or monitoring, in an industrial environment
  • Knowledge and experience with relevant environmental practices, processes, and legislation
  • Environmental project management experience, including Contractor supervision
  • Experience with environmental data management, analysis, reporting, and utilizing database software (e.g. GIS/EQuIS) and proficient with Microsoft Office Suite®
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent


$96,000 - $118,000 a year

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate's relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
