About the Opportunity
We are partnering with a private equity-backed company that is building its finance organization following a recent acquisition and is seeking a hands-on Controller to lead the accounting function. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced accounting leader who enjoys creating structure, improving processes, and driving operational excellence in a high-growth environment.

Reporting directly to executive leadership and working closely with private equity sponsors, this individual will establish best-in-class accounting practices, oversee the transition to GAAP reporting, and build the accounting team as the business continues to grow through both organic expansion and acquisitions.

Salary: $160,000 - $180,000 base
Please note this salary range is an estimate. Actual compensation will depend on qualifications, experience, and overall fit.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Build and lead the accounting function, establishing scalable processes, internal controls, and financial reporting procedures.
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Lead the organization's transition from cash basis accounting to full GAAP compliance.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses for executive leadership, investors, lenders, and board presentations.
  • Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives, financial planning, and operational decision-making.
  • Evaluate existing accounting systems and help lead the implementation of a new ERP platform to support future growth.
  • Support acquisition activity, including purchase accounting, financial integration, and post-close process improvements.
  • Collaborate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other business partners to ensure compliance and reporting accuracy.
  • Assess future staffing needs and recruit, develop, and mentor the accounting team as the organization expands.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across accounting operations, reporting, and financial processes.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA strongly preferred (active or inactive license acceptable).
  • Public accounting foundation, followed by progressive industry accounting leadership.
  • Proven Controller experience with strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and month-end close.
  • Experience building, improving, or transforming accounting processes in a growing organization.
  • Ability to thrive in a hands-on, fast-paced environment while balancing strategic leadership with day-to-day execution.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to partner effectively across executive leadership and operational teams.
  • Experience supporting private equity-backed organizations, acquisitions, ERP implementations, or accounting system upgrades is highly desirable.
  • Background within asset-intensive, service-based, rental, or project-driven organizations is a plus.
