Full Job Description
Job Summary

We're an AI native company building our internal operations intentionally. We are looking for a startup-focused Controller who balances depth in GAAP fundamentals with strategic instincts and a builders' mindset. Your mission will be to own the integrity of our financial close, the accuracy of our actuals, and the infrastructure that makes our numbers trustworthy and useful; to our leadership, investors, and auditors.

Together with our forecasts, you close the loop: the quality of your actuals is what makes their forecasts credible, and their forecasts are the context in which people will understand your work.

This role has craft at its core. We want someone who pattern-matches to best-in-the-world execution and uses that expertise to build lean, durable infrastructure that can scale without becoming a burden. Administrative work is everywhere in Internal Ops, and while you've done it all, you're strategic about what gets done by hand, what gets automated, and what gets skipped.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly and quarterly close process end-to-end: fast, clean, and built to get faster and cleaner over time
  • Treasury management: banking, runway, and cash controls.
  • Maintain our GAAP-compliant financial statements with the depth and documentation to hold up under audit, investor diligence, or similar; while also ensuring that leaders have the specific information they need in a clear, accessible format.
  • Own revenue recognition, with experience in SaaS
  • Run employee payroll (semi-monthly exempt workforce) in partnership with People Ops
  • Handle vendor and contractor payments as well as cash impacts of employee payroll such as accruals, employer tax, etc
  • Maintain and manage our "actuals" infrastructure including Brex and expense reconciliation.
  • Partner with the Head of FP&A to create a tight feedback loop between forecasts and actuals, treating variance as a useful learning opportunity; but also raising risks effectively as needed.
  • Lead relationships with external auditors, tax advisors, and accounting firms to make tax time and expected filings smooth and easy.
  • Support board reporting and investor diligence with well-organized, clearly documented financials that tell a coherent story
  • Evaluate and maintain our accounting systems and tooling; make deliberate choices about what to build, what to buy, and what to leave alone for now.

Required Qualifications
  • 6-10 years (or equivalent) in accounting or controllership, ideally including time at a high-growth startup and a foundation in public accounting or audit; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Mastery of the fundamentals, applied in our context. You know what it takes to stay compliant as we scale, including what can wait without harming compliance or safety.
  • Deep familiarity with ASC 606 in a SaaS or recurring revenue context. Bonus if you've worked through the accounting implications of variable or performance-based compensation structures.
  • You've built for diligence before (venture, strategic, or audit).
  • You design processes that are as light as the work allows, document them so they survive you, and resist complexity that doesn't earn its keep.
  • Collaborative and transparent. You share your work early, communicate proactively when something is off, a trusted partner to FP&A and the business.

Pay & Benefits

The pay range for this role is between $180,000 and $220,000, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role is also eligible for equity and benefits.
