Position: Corporate Controller

Functional Area: Finance & Accounting

Department: G&A

Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Location: Local to San Francisco, CA/Bay Area or Remote (Pacific/Mountain/Central)

Company background

Magnus Medical, Inc. ("Magnus") is an innovative company that has developed and commercialized a SaaS-based offering to provide a FDA-cleared, personalized and targeted treatment of patients with Treatment Resistant Depression. Magnus is also developing similar solutions for other mental health conditions including but not limited to bipolar disorder, postpartum depression, and anxiety.

Role Description

Magnus is looking for a hands-on, independent, experienced, finance and accounting professional, preferably a CPA with experience in healthcare, biotech, med-tech or pharmaceutical companies, to assume the role of Corporate Controller. This role will be responsible for all finance and accounting functions for Magnus. They should have sufficient experience with GAAP requirements, month-end close processes, revenue recognition, financial planning and financial reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate understands the business aspects as well as the financial aspects and has an inclination to partner with functional heads and solve a variety of business needs, has excellent organization and communication skills, is efficient and can thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for preparation, review and oversight of the month end financial close process
  • Implement GAAP accounting standards including lease accounting, stock based compensation and revenue recognition
  • Preparation of the company financial statements in compliance with GAAP standards
  • Responsible for managing financial audits; Coordinate and support first year GAAP financial statement audit
  • Oversee and direct 3rd party accounting firm
  • Document processes and procedures in a clear and concise manner for establishing financial and operational controls
  • Support all departments in the company with all finance related questions
  • Support CFO with monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to Sr. Management and others, as requested
  • Work with Tax Accountants to file the company's annual tax returns
  • Drive continuous improvement activities around all aspects of finance and accounting


Skills and Qualifications
  • Business or Accounting degree mandatory, a CPA accreditation is preferred
  • Quickbooks Online experience required, Bill.com, Expensify, Carta experience preferred
  • Ability to work as an independent contributor, team player and manager
  • 8+ years in an accounting and/or finance supervisory role
  • Strong decision-making, problem solving, and analytical skills
  • Experience in Medical Technology preferred
  • ERP Implementation experience a plus


Salary Range: $145,000 - $170,000 Annually

The annual base salary range for this position based in the United States is listed above. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on Magnus' compensation practices, job related skills, depth of experience, relevant certifications and training, in addition to geographic location. Based on the factors above, Magnus utilizes the full width of the range.
