In this position, the Controller will lead and develop a team while reporting directly to the CFO, acting as a key partner and right-hand in driving the company's financial strategy. The role is responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of the finance and accounting department within a professional services environment.
Responsibilities- Establish financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems.
- Monitor and enforce internal controls to protect company assets.
- Conduct audits and provide information to external auditors to confirm the financial condition of the company.
- Evaluate and recommend upgrades for hardware and software systems.
- Collect, interpret, and report financial data to provide status updates on the company's financial condition.
- Provide comprehensive financial updates to management by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting data points and trends.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying legislation and advising management.
- Recruit, select, orient, and train financial staff to maintain a strong financial team.
- Coach, counsel, and discipline employees to ensure job results are met.
- Keep financial information and plans confidential to protect operations.
- Participate in the development and support of the company's strategic plans.
- Stay current on tax regulations and practices to minimize tax impacts.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
- Guide operational and financial decision-making.
- Lead cash flow projections, working capital analysis, and other key financial metrics.
Essential Skills- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, GAAP, tax laws, and financial regulations.
- Strong leadership, management, and team-building skills with over 5 years of experience in managing large teams.
- Proven expertise in financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Exceptional ability to interpret complex financial data and provide strategic insights.
- Advanced proficiency in accounting software, ERP systems, and financial modeling tools.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to drive financial strategy while ensuring operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a strategic mindset.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- At least ten years of finance-related experience in the industry.
- At least five years of management experience.
- Advanced degree or CPA is a plus.
- Proven success in leading financial operations in a growing organization.
