Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hydraulics and product groups
  • Provide technical leadership in issue resolution and production readiness for new product introduction (NPI) programs
  • Guide system behavior during fault conditions and ensure compliance with ISO safety standards

Job Description:

Caterpillar is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership in the development, integration, and validation of electro-hydraulic (EH) implement control systems for Caterpillar machines.

What You Will Do:
  • Develop and maintain control algorithms, feature requirements, and system architectures for EH implement systems (e.g., lift, tilt, blade, work tool, auxiliary functions) through activities including:
  • Model-based design (MATLAB/Simulink)
  • Embedded software development and integration
  • Calibration and tuning
  • Verification & Validation (V&V)
  • Contribute to AUTOSAR-based software strategy and modular control implementations
  • Support NPI programs through system integration, issue resolution, and production readiness
  • Collaborate closely with hydraulics, electronics, software validation, and product groups
  • Support functional safety activities, including safety goal definition, hazard analysis, and alignment with ISO standards.
  • Guide system behavior during fault conditions, degraded modes, and safe-state operation.


Degree Requirement:
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field.

  • Technology Advising: Knowledge of effective advisory methods and ability to provide valued information and advice to clients regarding products, technologies, services and solutions for a specific technology domain.
  • Conceptual Thinking: Knowledge of thinking and reasoning at a conceptual level; ability to identify the critical ideas and interdependencies among system elements that impact performance.
  • Embedded Systems: Knowledge of embedded systems and their applications; ability to develop embedded systems with varying levels of complexity to control the operations of the machine it is embedded within.
  • Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.


Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Strong experience in EH implement or hydraulic machine control systems
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink model-based development
  • Experience with AUTOSAR architecture and modular software platforms
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, requirements management, and validation practices
  • Proven experience with control system architecture, modular software design, and system integration.


Additional Information:
  • This position requires the candidate to work full-time at the Mossville, IL office.
  • Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,710.00 - $169,060.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
