Job Summary

Location: River Rouge, MI

This role supports cokemaking processes by engaging with plant personnel in the field and in the office to support ongoing operational and maintenance activities, identify and manage projects to improve operations, support response to emergent issues, and facilitate internal and external company communications as a collaborative member of the management team.

Key Accountabilities

  • Support maintenance activities conducted by EES electricians, EES electrical and instrument technicians, and third-party resources. This includes preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, project work, and developing reliability strategies
  • Assist in mentoring and training of electricians, electrical and instrument technicians, and other related personnel on equipment functionality, control schemes, and troubleshooting practices
  • Facilitate PLC maintenance throughout the plant to ensure reliable equipment performance
  • Facilitate DCS functionality throughout the plant, creating/updating control schemes, overseeing software updates, and implementing cybersecurity with internal and external resources
  • Maintain systems used for environmental compliance including CEMS and COMS
  • Coordinate redistribution of plant power in case of supply failure or required maintenance of related infrastructure
  • Coordinate with Electrical Engineer on equipment procurement, maintenance strategies, and project management
  • Coordinate with IT resources on maintenance of data historian
  • Coordinate with IT resources on maintenance of plant communications (internet, phones, radios, etc.)


Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • A minimum of four years of related engineering experience preferably in a coke plant, chemical or petrochemical manufacturing facility, or other heavy industrial setting


Other Qualifications

Preferred:
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs (e.g. ControlLogix, SLC 500)
  • Experience with DeltaV DCS programming and maintenance
  • Experience with Burner Management Systems (BMS)
  • Experience with data historian (e.g. AVEVA PI) and CMMS software (e.g. Maximo)
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, especially in a field setting
  • Strong communication skills to convey plant interests with audiences of varied site-specific and/or technical knowledge of operations, including Standard Operating Procedure development
  • Excellent presentation skills for internal knowledge sharing and training purposes as well as external customer updates and industry conferences
  • Experience with implementing continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to function within a matrix organization where employees report to both a functional leader and business leader
  • Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with both a functional and business leader, who collaborate on employee issues and decisions (including performance management, compensation, and development)

  • Sit, stand, or walk for a minimum of 8-hour shifts, including walking long distances, up and down stairs and on uneven ground.
  • Frequently lift objects of up to 70 pounds in weight, and carry objects of up to 50 pounds in weight. Occasionally the employee will have to push or pull objects of up to 100 pounds in weight.
  • Frequently climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or occasionally, crawl.
  • Enter and work in confined space areas.
  • Talk & hear; use hands & fingers; handle & feel; and able to reach with hands and arms extensively.
  • Frequent operations of controls with occasional driving and fine hand function manipulations of tools and equipment.
  • Possess the following vision requirements: close, color, distance, peripheral, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Be clean shaven (except mustaches that are above the lower lip and do not affect the respirator seal) when reporting to work.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, and extreme heat and cold. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or machinery and equipment with high temperatures. Occasionally exposed to vibration and fumes or airborne particles which will require the use of personal protective equipment including respirators; fire retardant clothing; self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), etc. Exposed to protected and unprotected heights, which requires the use of a personal fall protection system (harness/lifeline). The noise level in the work environment may occasionally go above the threshold, requiring PPE.
