Full Job Description
We are recruiting for a Continuous Improvement Leader for our location in Toronto & Oakville . BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry's most challenging problems. Today, BWXT's equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Our Role:

This role will be reporting to the Operation Excellence Manager, Fuel and Fuel Handling, BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada Inc. and be based out of our Toronto & Oakville Operations. As our Continuous Improvement Leader, you will play a key role in shaping the future of operational excellence within Fuel and Fuel Handling business.

This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned professional to lead impactful Lean initiatives, drive meaningful changes, and influence teams across the organization without the need for direct supervisory authority. You'll partner with employees at every level to enhance efficiency, optimize workflows, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

You will be leading continuous improvement projects for our Toronto and Oakville location so frequent travel required (flexibility on being based out of either location, but travel will be required to each).

Your Day to Day:
  • Lead and execute Lean and continuous improvement projects that enhance production efficiency and operational performance.
  • Lead the setup of new manufacturing cells, to world class standards.
  • Implement, improve and maintain flow-based production, standard work, 5S, visual controls, layered process audits and other lean tools.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis such as process flow, material flow, value stream mapping, and bottleneck identification to uncover opportunities for improvement.
  • Measure current lead times, throughput, and WIP capacity, and drive initiatives to optimize future-state performance.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key performance indicators-such as OEE -to standardize and track operational success across the business.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to review performance trends and recommend targeted actions to improve results.
  • Champion a Lean mindset across the organization by training, coaching, and mentoring employees and leaders in Lean methodologies and best practices.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, and occasionally external partners, to advance Lean thinking and support improvement initiatives across the Components business.


Required Qualifications:
  • Completion of post-secondary education or Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the manufacturing/nuclear sector.
  • Lean Manufacturing/Engineering certification preferred.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Lean manufacturing methods, process improvement projects, and cross-functional initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence without authority.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with a driven, action oriented mindset and keen attention to detail.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $85,000 and $129,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
