Full Job Description
Position Overview:
The Industrial Engineering Manager leads the development and optimization of manufacturing systems, labor strategies, production flow, capacity planning, and overall operational efficiency for a high-volume operation. This role oversees industrial engineering activities for greenfield launches, production ramp-ups, product changes, and future expansion.

The manager drives lean implementation, labor and process optimization, ergonomics, flow and line balancing, automation integration, and warehouse efficiency across machining, assembly, logistics, and installation operations.

This position requires an analytical, hands-on leader capable of building scalable manufacturing systems while supporting operational excellence, cost effectiveness, safety, and quality.

Your Day to Day as an Industrial Engineering Manager:
  • Lead industrial engineering activities for new factory launches, facility expansions, production transfers, and ramp-ups.
  • Develop factory layouts, material and warehouse flows, point-of-use storage, supermarkets, tugger/AGV/AMR routes, ergonomic workstations, and balanced production lines.
  • Build manufacturing labor strategies, staffing models, and capacity plans for current and future operations across all shifts and functions.
  • Conduct time studies, work element analysis, and develop labor standards using MOST, MTM, stopwatch studies, and predetermined motion systems.
  • Analyze cycle times, labor utilization, equipment efficiency, and production constraints; implement solutions to improve throughput and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Establish standardized work and support PFMEA, process validation, launch readiness reviews, and operational trials.
  • Drive productivity, cost reduction, flow optimization, and waste elimination through lean initiatives including Kaizen, standardized work, JIT, pull systems, Kanban, SMED, 5S, Heijunka, visual management, and OEE improvement.
  • Optimize workstation layouts, operator travel paths, inventory presentation, internal logistics, dock utilization, and receiving efficiency.
  • Develop production capacity models, simulation studies, and operational scenarios to support future growth and capital planning.
  • Support automation integration, advanced manufacturing technologies, lift assists, cobots, and automated material handling systems.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments using RULA, REBA, NIOSH, digital human models, and motion analysis; partner with EHS on risk reduction.
  • Design warehouse layouts, storage systems, inbound/outbound logistics processes, milk-run strategies, and material-flow standards.
  • Support implementation of barcoding, RFID, serialization, AGVs/AMRs, WMS, MES, ERP, and digital manufacturing systems.
  • Use data analytics and AI-driven insights to improve labor efficiency, OEE, throughput, downtime, capacity utilization, and inventory turns.
  • Develop business cases and ROI analyses for improvements, automation investments, equipment, and facility expansions; support capital budgeting and project prioritization.
  • Track project performance versus cost, timing, and operational targets.
  • Lead and mentor industrial engineers, analysts, and process improvement specialists; develop team capabilities in industrial engineering and lean methodologies.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Logistics, Quality, Maintenance, EHS, IT, Finance, and other stakeholders.
  • Establish industrial engineering standards, documentation systems, and best practices; support hiring, training, and technical development of engineering staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of industrial engineering or manufacturing operations experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in automotive or high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Engineering, or related technical discipline.
  • Experience supporting: Greenfield factory launches, model changes, production ramp-up, Lean manufacturing transformations, automation integration.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a D.O.E. security clearance.
  • Time studies, labor modeling, line balancing, and standardized work development
  • Production flow analysis, capacity planning, and manufacturing simulation
  • Lean manufacturing systems and ergonomic analysis
  • Data analytics using advanced Excel, ERP/MES systems, and digital tools
  • Business case development and project management


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience with Toyota Production System and lean/Industry 4.0 technologies
  • Proficiency with MOST/MTM labor standards and factory simulation software
  • Skilled in digital manufacturing tools, Power BI/Tableau, and AI-driven analytics
  • Experience with AGV/AMR systems, warehouse automation, and CNC/cobot-enabled operations
  • Experience in machining, assembly, logistics, and warehouse operations preferred.

Pay: $114,000 - $180,000

The base salary range for this position in Tennessee (US-TN) at the start of employment is expected to be between $114,000 and $180,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,' unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
