Location: On-site - Central Maryland (Baltimore/Washington corridor); situational telework only as approved by the customer

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Strategic Communications Specialist to implement and facilitate strategic, operational, and tactical communications that strengthen internal and external messaging and outreach for a national security organization.

You will coordinate marketing communication initiatives, including public relations, special events, advertising, and brand awareness, and maintain communication standards across periodicals, web, publications, presentations, and digital platforms.

What You'll Do
  • Communication Strategy: Draft communication strategies and messaging products, coordinate media activities, and support executive briefings with talking points, graphics, and read-ahead materials.
  • Marketing & Branding: Coordinate public relations, advertising, and brand awareness campaigns and maintain brand consistency across all channels.
  • Content Development: Develop and distribute news and informational content for internal and external audiences in accordance with service level agreements.
  • Digital & Web Content: Manage web platform content updates, perform quality checks, and ensure compliance with messaging and security requirements.
  • Visual Media: Oversee design and production of graphics, video, and photography, and maintain a tagged digital media library.
  • Events & Conferences: Plan and execute special events, outreach activities, and conferences, including registration, cost tracking, speaker coordination, agendas, venues, and post-event summaries.
  • Public Affairs Support: Assist the public affairs office in documenting strategic, operational, and tactical engagements within standard operating procedures to support efficiency and continuity.

Who You Are (Required Qualifications)
  • Strategic Communications Experience: Proven experience leading strategic communications or public affairs efforts.
  • Mission Domain Knowledge: Experience in intelligence or cyberspace communications and/or government communication policies and procedures.
  • Exceptional Writer & Speaker: Excellent oral and written communication skills.


  • Organized Collaborator: Strong organizational and interpersonal skills; able to manage multiple products and stakeholders at once.

Preferred Skills
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and web content management systems.
  • Working knowledge of AP style and Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Experience with social media management and communications analytics.
  • Public affairs or communications professional qualification (e.g., APR).

Required Education + Experience
  • Education & Experience: 12+ years of experience in strategic communications or a similar field; or 8-10 years with a BA/BS; or 6-8 years with an MA/MS/MBA.
  • Clearance: Active Secret clearance required.

GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Work Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday, core business hours of 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM ET (40 hours/week).
  • Work Location: On-site at the customer facility in Central Maryland. Telework is situational and must be pre-approved by the customer.
  • Travel: Occasional local and CONUS travel may be required to support meetings, events, and engagements.
