Job Summary
Architect and lead the technical design and system engineering of global, headless eCommerce platforms using Contentful CMS.
Serve as the technical authority for content modeling, platform performance, API orchestration, developer tooling, and platform governance.
Design scalable multi-space content frameworks that support international markets and integrate with transaction engines, search platforms, and high-performance frontend applications.
Minimum 8+ years of core software architecture and digital engineering experience.
Key Responsibilities
• Design advanced Contentful content models and schemas, including complex object references, validation strategies, self-referencing structures, and reusable modular content patterns.
• Design and manage multi-tenant Contentful space topologies, environment aliases, cross-space links, and platform migrations.
• Develop automated migration scripts using the Contentful Migration CLI and integrate schema changes into Git-based DevOps and CI/CD workflows.
• Architect integrations using Contentful Content Delivery, Preview, and Management APIs.
• Design and optimize Contentful GraphQL API implementations for high-performance content queries.
• Configure secure event-driven webhooks with custom JSON payloads for edge-cache invalidation, frontend builds, automated indexing, and related workflows.
• Design, build, and deploy custom applications using the Contentful App Framework and open-source UI libraries.
• Extend Contentful entry editing capabilities through custom field modifiers, sidebar extensions, and integrations with PIM, DAM, and eCommerce platforms.
• Engineer localization architectures supporting multiple locales and automated technical translation workflows.
• Configure governance workflows using Contentful Launch, Compose, and automated status transition processes.
• Architect end-to-end headless solutions connecting Contentful with commercial platforms, search frameworks such as Algolia, personalization modules, and transactional checkout engines.
• Define SLAs, platform usage budgets, API caching strategies, and CDN integrations using platforms such as Cloudflare, Fastly, or Akamai.
• Review content schema changes to optimize query performance, asset caching, and JSON payload efficiency.
• Guide engineering teams on data migration strategies for structured and unstructured content moving from monolithic CMS platforms to Contentful.
• Lead code and pipeline reviews for custom Contentful extensions and API integrations.
• Enforce security practices covering OAuth application permissions, access tokens, and webhook request signatures.
• Act as a technical SME during product roadmap discussions and align engineering solutions with product and marketing requirements.
• Mentor senior developers, technical leads, and business analysts on API-first engineering practices and content management models.
Required Qualifications
• 8+ years of technical software architecture and digital engineering experience.
• Minimum 4 years of experience with enterprise Contentful content modeling and schema engineering.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with Contentful space governance, multi-environment architecture, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with Contentful APIs, webhooks, and event-driven integrations.
• Minimum 2 years of experience with Contentful App Framework development and extensions.
• Minimum 3 years of experience with Contentful localization, workflows, and platform automation.
• Strong hands-on experience with modern headless commerce or content architectures based on MACH principles.
• Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, GraphQL, Node.js, Next.js, and React.
• Experience with serverless environments such as AWS Lambda, Vercel, or Netlify.
• Expert-level knowledge of Postman, Git, CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions and GitLab CI, Jira, and cloud-native architecture tools.
• Experience architecting integrations between Contentful and enterprise commerce, search, personalization, and transactional systems.
• Proven experience with API-first architecture, content modeling, data migration, and platform governance.
• Proven ability to guide architectural decisions across distributed engineering teams.
• Strong technical communication and presentation skills.

• Experience with globally distributed engineering teams.
• Experience integrating Contentful with PIM, DAM, eCommerce, search, and personalization platforms.

Education
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or an equivalent engineering discipline.
