What You'll Be Doing

As an experienced Data Governance practitioner and member of CIBC’s team, the Consultant, Data Governance is responsible for supporting the evolution and execution of Personal & Business Banking (PBB) Data Governance capabilities, resulting in improved communication, collaboration & understanding for improved business oversight and decision-making. The Consultant, Data Governance supports PBB in demonstrating appropriate Data Governance and Data Management aligned to the Enterprise defined Data Governance policy and standards. Data Governance execution and materials address Financial Institution regulatory requirements. Data Governance team members are cognizant of regulatory concerns, are comfortable proactively mitigating regulatory risk and providing timely, accurate response upon request. Key Data Governance capabilities include Metadata Management, Data Quality and Data Sharing. Execution will be supported by stakeholder and forum engagements. Our execution includes a commitment to an ongoing strategic development of the Data Governance implementation.

How You'll Succeed

  • Business Effectiveness - Identify and recommend changes that enhance operations whether through technology or other processes to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the department.

  • Strategic Thinking Approach – Drive, manage and execute data and reporting projects and initiatives in alignment with CIBC Strategy while supporting the business goals, objectives and key performance indicators. Ability to think strategically about how to mobilize and engage teams across the enterprise to deliver strategic change.

  • Relationship Management – Manage the relationship between the Data and Reporting and various partners throughout the bank with a high focus on client experience and partnering for shared success.  Build internal and external relationships as required to help ensure we are providing the right level of service to our leadership team and business partners. 

  • Communication -  Excellent verbal and writing skills to effectively articulate ideas and opinions that involve analysis, processes, and technology solutions to others with different disciplinary backgrounds. Ability to produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language, clarity of thought and orderliness of presentation.


Who You Are

  • You have relevant experience. You bring 3-5 years of experience implementing or executing data governance, preferably within a financial institution, and have worked in a regulatory environment.

  • You demonstrate strong analytical and technical skills. You have experience with programming languages and modern big data, analytical, and dashboard tools such as SAS, SQL, Python, R, Hadoop, Spark, Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, and Cognos.

  • You have data science expertise. You can extract and clean large datasets, build predictive machine learning algorithms, and communicate complex technical findings to guide business strategy.

  • You are a problem solver. You excel at critical thinking, independently identifying and analyzing business problems, and recommending effective solutions.

  • You understand business operations. You have knowledge of retail banking, marketing, and contact center/phone channel businesses, and can navigate the integration and interdependencies across lines of business.

  • You are an effective communicator. You produce clear, organized business documents and express yourself well verbally, adapting tone, style, and structure for your audience.

  • You are skilled in data management and reporting. You have experience using tools like Collibra, Informatica, or Purview. You track progress, conduct data analysis, communicate performance, execution, and risk metrics.

  • You have a risk mitigation mindset and Agile experience. You design processes with risk mitigation in mind, support audits and exams, and have delivered results within an Agile Delivery Framework.
