Full Job Description
The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a Construction Superintendent to our team based in Pittsburgh.

Position Summary:

Tetra Tech is currently seeking a Project/Construction Manager. This position will serve as the on-site construction inspector for abandoned mine land (AML) and abandoned mine drainage (AMD) reclamation/construction projects primarily in northern West Virginia but may also include projects in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Kentucky. The Project/Construction Manager will be responsible for the daily oversight and inspection of assigned projects ensuring consistency with plans, specifications, permit conditions, and owner requirements. The on-site inspector will maintain all WV DEP (or other state agency) required inspection reports and information and will submit the information electronically as requested or required by WV DEP (or other state agency). The ideal candidate must have experience managing and inspecting abandoned mine reclamation, abandoned mine drainage, commercial, industrial, and/or oil & gas construction projects. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Job Functions:
The following duties are considered essential to the role. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions:
  • Serve as a liaison with contractors, landowners, design engineers, and WV DEP (or other state agency).
  • Provide guidance and oversight to other on-site contractors.
  • Oversee the execution of basic to advanced level specifications for project assignments detailing client performance requirements, specific component needs, design requirements, applicable design codes, and vendor drawing requirements.
  • Monitor and inspect construction to confirm quality and that the constructed works are in conformance with the approved plans, specifications, general conditions, laws, regulations, and procedures.
  • Review and manage technical submittals (shop drawings, RFI's, RFC's and work plans) and coordinate with design engineers to confirm conformance with design requirements.
  • Address or elevate issues that arise in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Provide effective documentation of progress through daily and weekly reports (with detailed photos) and submit those reports to prime the contractor or WV DEP (or other state agency) as required.


Required Qualifications:
  • B.S. in an engineering or other construction related field.
  • 5+ years of AML, AMD, commercial, industrial, and/or oil & gas construction experience.
  • Strong construction management background having worked on multiple AML. AMD, commercial, industrial, and/or oil & gas projects.
  • Prefer an EIT or appropriately recognized technical designation.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software, i.e. Word, Excel is required
  • A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
  • Must be able to work effectively with other technical professionals.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in written form.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to frequently stand, walk, and move throughout active construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to traverse uneven, steep, muddy, rocky, or otherwise difficult terrain commonly encountered at abandoned mine land, reclamation, and construction sites.
  • Ability to occasionally climb stairs, ladders, slopes, embankments, and similar site features.
  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, reach, and maintain balance while conducting field inspections.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull equipment, supplies, and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to safely enter, exit, and operate a motor vehicle and travel between project sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and tolerate exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, and uneven or wet ground.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), which may include a hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility clothing, protective footwear, hearing protection, and other project-specific PPE.
  • Sufficient visual and auditory ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to observe construction activities, identify potential hazards, review plans and documentation, and communicate effectively in an active construction environment.
  • Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
