Job Description

Position summary: JMT is seeking a Construction Superintendent to be responsible for (1) providing construction project oversight using knowledge of general engineering and construction principles and practices to interpret, organize, coordinate, communicate and execute assignments as necessary to accomplish the goals and objectives defined by the client, (2) ensuring work is performed and completed in strict accordance with the contract documents, (3) acting as a technical advisor to the Owner and other team members, (4) teaching and mentoring less experienced team members, and (5) other tasks as may be required.

Compensation for this position is $150,000.00 - $190,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. If so, the actual salary range may vary from the estimate provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent relationships with clients, building occupants, architects/engineers, and contractors
  • Manage and coordinate field/inspection staff
  • Manage project schedule from inception to close out
  • Run project job-site meetings
  • Review contractor work in place to ensure compliance with plans and specifications
  • Review and approve contractor monthly requisitions and invoices
  • Report on project issues and provide status updates
  • Perform other duties as may be required

Required Experience

  • Minimum of ten years of construction experience serving as a Construction Manager, Senior Inspector, Construction Management Representative, Owner's Representative or Construction Superintendent
  • Experience with building renovation projects and building system repair and restoration projects that involve active management, oversight and/or inspection of multiple construction trades and close coordination with the Government/Owner on construction issues
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 30-hour construction safety training
  • Knowledge and experience working with the Owner's Project Managers on project costs and budgets, processing change requests, requests for information, submittals, and field observation reports
  • Experience using construction management software (eBuilder, Procore, etc.) to communicate construction progress and process documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Strong work ethic. Willing to do what it takes to get the job done

Preferred Experience
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management
  • Preferred candidates will have experience working as a Superintendent on large ($50M+) building projects for public clients (NYCHA, DDC, and/or SCA)
  • Certified Construction Manager, or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Experience on public buildings (public housing) projects

Working Conditions

Work is performed in both an office and field (construction) environment. Office to field time is approximately 25% to 75% respectively. Field work requires climbing, walking and standing at a construction site and may be outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.
