Role description:
Arcadis is seeking a qualified Site Supervisor to support the Construction Phase Services (CPS) Lead in delivering engineering services during construction for rail, transit, and major infrastructure projects (rail and transit experience is mandatory). The Site Supervisor will provide field-based construction observation and technical support to ensure that Construction Management Quality systems are followed, and the works are constructed in accordance with Issued For Construction (IFC) drawings, project specifications, applicable codes and standards, and the overall design intent.
Working closely with the CPS Lead, Engineer of Record (EOR), contractors, and project stakeholders, the Site Supervisor will monitor installation activities related to mechanical, electrical, and building systems and verify compliance with design requirements and quality standards. The role will support effective coordination between the design and construction teams and assist in identifying and resolving potential technical or interface issues between MEP systems and other infrastructure components.
This role is suited for a technically oriented professional with strong field experience on complex infrastructure projects involving transit stations, underground utilities, Operations, Maintenance and Storage Facilities (OMSF), and other rail-related infrastructure.
Role accountabilities:
The Site Supervisor will perform regular site surveillance and construction observations of construction works to verify that contractor activities are carried out in accordance with IFC drawings, project specifications, approved shop drawings, and applicable codes and standards.
The role will monitor the major civil, structural, mechanical, utility, electrical, architectural, and landscaping activities including installation of track infrastructure, communications, transit signals, and associated piping infrastructure. The Site Supervisor will also observe installation of overhead catenary electrical systems including power distribution, lighting systems, cable containment, grounding systems, traction power systems, and equipment installations. The role will assist in identifying potential clashes or installation issues and facilitate coordination with the design and construction teams.
The Site Supervisor will document field observations in accordance with Construction Phase Services procedures and maintain accurate records of inspections, including hold points and witness points identified within Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs). Detailed site surveillance reports will be prepared, including written documentation and photographic records of construction progress and observations.
The role will include maintaining inspection and surveillance tracking tools to support the CPS team in monitoring construction progress, inspection status, documentation requirements, and outstanding technical actions. The Site Supervisor will identify potential non-conformances or design-related issues and communicate these to the CPS Lead, Engineer of Record, and project team.
The Site Supervisor will coordinate with contractor representatives to facilitate site inspections and support the resolution of Requests for Information (RFIs), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Field Change Requests related to works. The role may also assist the design team with the review of shop drawings, material submittals, and Inspection and Test Plans as they relate to site implementation.
Participation in site coordination meetings, construction progress meetings, and technical discussions related to building systems and infrastructure interfaces will be required. Throughout all site activities, the Site Supervisor will promote Arcadis' commitment to safety, quality, and environmental stewardship.
Qualifications & Experience:
Candidates shall possess a diploma or degree in Civil, structural or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
The candidate should have a minimum of seven (7) to ten (10) years of relevant experience in construction inspection, construction observation, or field engineering related to major infrastructure projects. Experience on rail or transit projects, including transit stations, underground facilities, or maintenance facilities, is mandatory for this role.
Candidates should demonstrate familiarity with applicable standards and codes including CSA standards, the Ontario Building Code (OBC), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), CROR, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards where applicable, OHSA, and relevant municipal and provincial requirements.
The candidate should possess a strong technical understanding construction process and work procedures for major infrastructure. Experience coordinating with civil, structural, architectural, and rail systems interfaces is considered an asset.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, along with strong client facing competencies and the ability to prepare clear technical documentation and site reports. The role requires the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced project environment while managing multiple priorities and maintaining attention to detail.
Proficiency in working with scheduling software's, staff resourcing, competency with digital tools including BIM, Bluebeam, MS Office, project scheduling, and other industry used tools in engineering and construction projects
Registration with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is considered an asset but is not mandatory. A valid Ontario Class G Driver's License is required.
The salary range for this position is $92,000 - $139,000. The base salary represents Arcadis' hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
