Construction Safety Director

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Job Summary

The Construction Safety Director will oversee the safety program of their division of the company, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable in modern safety practices, and skilled at influencing and training others to foster a culture of safety. This role is critical to minimizing workplace risk, managing incidents effectively, and maintaining thorough documentation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and manage the Safety Department, ensuring alignment with company goals.
  • Conduct site inspections, safety reviews, and risk assessments for all active job sites.
  • Complete and maintain daily safety and incident reports, and OSHA required documentation.
  • Deliver new hire safety orientations and facilitate 10-hour OSHA training sessions.
  • Lead investigations and documentation for all workplace injuries, accidents, and near-misses.
  • Support injured employees, including coordination of medical treatment and return-to-work plans.
  • Collaborate with medical professionals and communicate effectively regarding work restrictions.
  • Provide coaching and corrective action for safety violations in accordance with company policy, ensuring documentation supports all activities.
  • Develop, implement, and update site-specific safety plans and hazard analyses.
  • Prepare and maintain MSDS/SDS and other safety documentation for projects.
  • Support Foremen and project teams with Job Hazard Analyses and other safety-related documents.
  • Report division safety metrics, trends, and updates during scheduled Foremen and team meetings.
  • Regularly inspect equipment for compliance and serviceability.
  • Organize and facilitate random drug testing, in line with legal requirements and company policy.
  • Administer safety award programs to encourage safe behaviors and recognize compliance.
  • Monitor subcontractor safety programs, ensuring adherence to BakerTriangle's standards.
  • Act as mediator for safety-related disputes or concerns.
  • Assist preconstruction teams with safety reviews during the planning phase.
  • Collaborate closely with operations staff to ensure clear and continuous communication regarding safety matters.
  • Represent the company at industry functions, events, and professional associations, upholding company values and professionalism.
  • Other safety-related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Competencies:
  • Excellent understanding of federal, state, and local construction safety laws and OSHA compliance.
  • Proven leadership in developing and managing safety programs for large construction projects.
  • Exceptional communication, training, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to conduct investigations, collect and analyze incident data, and implement corrective action plans.
  • Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical documents, legal regulations, and construction drawings.
  • Ability to create and deliver effective presentations and training for diverse audiences.
  • Strong conflict resolution, coaching, and people management abilities.
  • Solid decision-making, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • High degree of integrity and confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
