Construction Manager
A Heavy Civil Construction Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of large-scale civil infrastructure projects such as highways, roads, bridges, utilities, and public works. This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management skills, and the ability to coordinate complex teams and resources.
Core Responsibilities:
- Project Planning & Coordination: Collaborate with project manager to develop detailed project plans, budgets, and schedules; define scope, resources, and milestones.
- Team Leadership: Supervise field crews, subcontractors, and specialized trades; ensure efficient workflow and quality control.
- Evaluate the progress on site against the program and agreed milestones. Use this information to provide accurate updates to the project team. Lead review of long term scheduling effort and required deliverables needed for successful project execution.
- Compliance & Safety: Lead zero harm initiatives, safety regulations (including OSHA), and environmental standards; conduct site inspections.
- Budget & Cost Management: Estimate and track project costs, monitor expenditure, and control spending to stay within approved budgets.
- Contract & Stakeholder Management: Interpret and manage contracts; liaise with engineers, clients, and local authorities for permits and approvals.
- Risk Management: Identify, assess, and mitigate risks; resolve delays and issues promptly.
- Materials & Equipment Oversight: Coordinate delivery and use of materials and equipment; track inventory and ensure availability meets schedule needs.
- Reporting: Prepare progress reports, assist Project manager with cost updates, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Education: Typically, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience: Minimum 10+ years in heavy civil or transportation infrastructure project management.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in project management software, and construction methodologies.
- Demonstrable experience of the implementation of health, safety, environmental and quality management processes.
- Contract and commercial awareness.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, mentorship, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to operate effectively in various site environments
