Job Description

The Constructability Lead is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the project's Constructability Program throughout the Detailed Engineering phase. The role ensures that engineering designs, execution strategies, equipment layouts, construction sequencing, logistics plans, modularization concepts, and operational interfaces are reviewed from a construction perspective before issuance for procurement and construction.

The Constructability Lead facilitates multidisciplinary constructability reviews, drives Construction Safety in Design (CSID) initiatives, manages constructability action items, and ensures lessons learned and field experience are incorporated into engineering deliverables. The position functions as the primary advocate for construction execution within the engineering organization and works closely with the Construction Manager, Engineering Manager, Procurement Team, Operations, and Contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement the Project Constructability Plan.
  • Lead constructability reviews, workshops, and action tracking.
  • Ensure construction requirements are incorporated into engineering deliverables before IFC issuance.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, schedule performance, and cost effectiveness.
  • Monitor and report constructability metrics and recommendations.
  • Integrate lessons learned from mining and industrial projects.

Engineering and Construction Support

Review and provide input on:
  • 3D models and plot plans
  • Equipment layouts
  • Structural, mechanical, piping, and electrical systems
  • Underground utilities and access requirements
  • Vendor equipment packages
  • Construction sequencing and work packaging

Evaluate installation methods, maintenance access, lifting requirements, temporary works, material handling, and operational accessibility.

Support planning for major equipment installation, heavy lifts, transportation logistics, construction sequencing, area releases, contractor interfaces, and workface planning.

Heavy Lift and Heavy Haul Coordination

  • Evaluate and support transportation, lifting, and installation strategies for major project equipment and structural components, including mills, crushers, thickeners, transformers, conveyor systems, and modularized assemblies.


Stakeholder Interfaces
  • Collaborate closely with project leadership, engineering disciplines, procurement, contracts, project controls, operations, and commissioning teams to ensure alignment and successful project execution.


Basic Job Requirements

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in engineering field of study and fourteen (14) years of work-related experience; a recognized certification or registration in the applicable field, if required; some locations may have additional or different qualifications in order to comply with local requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders


  • 15+ years of heavy industrial or mining construction experience.


  • 10+ years in constructability, field engineering, construction engineering, or construction management roles.


  • Experience supporting at least one major mining project through Detailed Engineering and into execution.


  • Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job


  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines


  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner


Other Job Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of mining and industrial construction, constructability practices, construction safety, work packaging, execution planning, and digital construction tools.
  • Demonstrated leadership through effective communication, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration, risk-based decision making, conflict resolution, influencing skills, and team development.


Preferred Qualifications
• Construction Management degree or global equivalent
• Typically has twelve (12) years of field project experience
• Commensurate skills for an assignment to a project with a value between US$500 million and US$1 billion or global equivalent
• Advanced computer and software skills to include the use of word processing and email as well as the advanced use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $118,000.00 - $218,000.00

The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
