GFT is seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialistto fill a position within our established and growing Environmental Compliance Team in Toronto, Ontario. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.
In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Ensure that construction activities, throughout all phases of the project, adhere to federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, applicable environmental permits, approvals, and other regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular, comprehensive inspections of construction sites to identify potential environmental hazards, and communicate inspection findings, recommendations, and best practices to project managers, contractors, and stakeholders.
- Monitor and assess environmental conditions during construction activities, including erosion and sediment control, air quality, water quality, and soil quality.
- Liaise with subject matter experts, community groups, and stakeholders to communicate environmental plans, address concerns, and ensure transparency.
- Support and advise Environmental Team in comprehensive environmental compliance reports to regulatory authorities, project managers, and stakeholders on a regular basis.
- Provide guidance to project teams, contractors, and subcontractors on environmental best practices, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform project coordination duties, including working with various subject matter experts, to deliver exceptional products on time and within budget.
What you will bring to our firm:
- Bachelors Degree or Post-Secondary College Diploma in a relevant discipline such as environmental science or engineering, hydrogeology, geology, physical geography, or environmental studies.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in the field of environmental compliance or environmental management. Preference to candidates with demonstrated experience in the construction industry.
What we prefer you bring:
- Familiarity with ISO14001 principles would be an asset, including the development, maintenance and auditing of Environmental Management Systems.
- Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC) certification.
- Demonstrated experience with federal, provincial, and local environmental regulations and permitting requirements.
- Aptitude for project management with excellent attention to detail and ability to problem solve.
- Successful candidates must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to collaborate within a team environment.
- Candidates must possess strong communication skills (verbal and written), demonstrated ability to perform data evaluation, and prepare technical reports.
- Willing to travel to project sites to complete necessary field investigations and data collection.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, specifically Outlook, Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Valid drivers license in Ontario with access to a reliable vehicle.
Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $75,000.00-$105,000.00. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
