Full Job Description
The Role

K2 Space is seeking a Communications & Government Relations Specialist to support our strategic communications and government relations efforts in Washington, DC. This role will provide logistical, operational, and public affairs support across both functions - helping plan and execute communications and government relations campaigns that advance K2's mission and policy priorities. You'll work closely with the Strategic Communications Director on major announcements and day-to-day media efforts and support the Director of Congressional Affairs on targeted government relations initiatives. This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in congressional, government agency, or think tank work who wants to help build the communications and government relations function of a fast-growing space company.

Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day support to the Strategic Communications Director on media efforts, communication materials, and major company announcements
  • Support the Director of Congressional Affairs on targeted government relations efforts, including meeting prep, briefing materials, and follow-up
  • Assist with planning and executing communications and government relations campaigns, including content creation and timeline planning
  • Help create and manage visual assets, including promotional and announcement videos, official photographs, and website content
  • Monitor K2-related news and relevant stories to drive communications feedback and shape company communications campaigns
  • Identify speaking opportunities and coordinate conference attendance, and maintain a strategic calendar of these engagements for K2 leadership
  • Manage association memberships and track sponsorship opportunities
  • Draft and edit talking points, briefing documents, press materials, and other written products
  • Monitor relevant news, legislative activity, and policy developments to keep leadership informed
  • Coordinate with congressional offices, government agencies, and other external stakeholders as needed
  • Support event planning and execution for briefings, Hill visits, media engagements, speaking opportunities, VIP visits to K2's headquarters, and other public affairs activities
  • Manage the DC office customer relations management tool and mailing list
  • Provide general operational and administrative support to the Strategic Communications and Congressional Affairs teams

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting strategic communications and/or government relations
  • Experience with using customer relations management (CRM) tools
  • Background providing logistical, operational, or public affairs support for a congressional office, government agency, or think tank
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • A start-up, can-do mentality
  • Based in the Washington, DC area (Rosslyn, VA), with occasional travel to K2 Space headquarters in Torrance, California and other locations as needed

Nice to Have
  • Existing relationships with congressional staff, agency contacts, or press
  • Experience with media monitoring and press outreach
  • Experience supporting a startup or fast-scaling organization
  • Familiarity with the space, defense, or aerospace policy landscape

Compensation and Benefits:
  • Base salary range for this role is $100,000 - $150,000 + equity in the company
  • Salary will be based on several factors including, but not limited to: knowledge and skills, education, and experience level
