Job Summary
The Commodity Manager owns the sourcing and supplier performance of an assigned commodity portfolio, from strategy and source selection through contract award and supply assurance for prototype, R&D, final assembly and aftermarket.
The Commodity Manager is the single point of accountability for their commodities. They translate the Supply Chain's sourcing strategy into commodity-level plans, run competitive sourcing and negotiations, and manage suppliers day-to-day to deliver on cost, quality, delivery and sustainability.
Working closely with Engineering, Quality, Operations and Finance, the Commodity Manager plays a key role in building a resilient, agile and sustainable supply base for EVIO's new aircraft program.
Key Responsibilities
- Commodity Strategy: Develop and execute commodity strategies aligned with the Value Stream's sourcing strategy and program objectives. Build a deep understanding of the supply market, cost drivers, technology trends and supplier landscape for each assigned commodity.
- Sourcing and Source Selection: Lead RFI/RFQ/RFP processes, supplier assessments and make-or-buy inputs. Partner with Engineering and Quality to select suppliers that meet technical, certification, cost and sustainability requirements.
- Negotiation and Contracting: Negotiate pricing, long-term agreements, terms and conditions, and aftermarket provisions. Secure competitive, enduring agreements that safeguard EVIO's interests, with support from Legal and Finance.
- Cost Management: Build should-cost models and total cost of ownership analyses. Own the commodity budget and drive cost-reduction roadmaps across the program lifecycle.
- Supplier Performance Management: Act as the primary commercial contact for commodity suppliers. Set and track performance on quality, on-time delivery, cost and responsiveness, and lead business reviews and corrective action plans.
- New Product Introduction: Support NPI by engaging suppliers early in design, securing development and qualification activities, and ensuring parts are ready for first article, certification and rate ramp-up.
- Supply Assurance: Work with supplier development, planning and logistics to secure capacity and deliveries that meet final assembly rates and aftermarket fulfilment targets.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate commodity risks, including single-source dependency, supplier financial health, capacity, raw material volatility and geopolitical exposure. Maintain mitigation and dual-sourcing plans.
- Sustainability and Compliance: Embed sustainability and ethical sourcing criteria in supplier selection and contracts. Ensure compliance with export control, conflict minerals and aerospace regulatory requirements.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to Value Stream standard work, sourcing processes and tools, and share market intelligence with the wider Supply Chain team.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing, procurement or commodity management, ideally in aerospace or another regulated, high-complexity industry.
- Commodity Expertise: Solid knowledge of one or more relevant commodities, such as machined and structural parts, composites, electrical and electronic components, wiring harnesses, or systems and equipment.
- Negotiation: Proven track record of negotiating complex contracts and long-term agreements with measurable cost and commercial results.
- Analytical Skills: Strong financial and analytical ability, including should-cost modelling, TCO analysis and spend analysis. Advanced Excel skills; ERP experience (e.g., SAP, Procurify) is an asset.
- New Product Introduction: Experience sourcing for development programs, working closely with Engineering from early design through qualification and ramp-up.
- Relationship Management: Ability to build strong partnerships with suppliers and internal stakeholders, and to influence without direct authority.
- Aerospace Knowledge: Familiarity with AS9100, first article inspection, and export control requirements (ITAR / Canadian Controlled Goods) is an asset.
- Sustainability Focus: Commitment to sustainable and ethical sourcing practices.
- Languages: Fluency in English and French is an asset.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or Engineering. A professional certification (e.g., SCMP, CPSM) is an asset.
