Position Overview

The Commercial Manager supports sales productivity and deal flow by developing the pricing and commercial solution for large scale energy storage systems. Such solutions will comprise of extended scope offerings ranging from integrated AC energy storage systems to long-term service agreements. It is expected that the position will also have responsibility for battery-only (DC) solutions to support our HQ-based colleagues in Korea.

This position is responsible for supporting all phases of LGES Vertech's sales process, including but not limited to opportunity qualification, reviewing and preparing comments on specifications and tender documents, responding to Requests for Proposal (RFP), proposal development, contract deal team leadership, customer submittal preparation, providing equipment functionality and capability reports to the sales team and acting as the primary liaison between Sales, Sales Engineering, Project Execution, and Legal. This position must be able to establish and maintain strong internal and external relationships throughout the sales cycle.

The position will require the successful candidate to either be based at the Westborough, MA office or alternatively make arrangements to be present in the office on a reasonably frequent basis (approx. one 3-day visit every month is anticipated). Travel to meet with customers during bid reviews and/or contract negotiations is also expected.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic proposal development for large-scale energy storage systems, ensuring alignment with commercial, technical, and customer-specific objectives.
  • Lead cross-functional contract deal teams-including Legal, Sales Engineering, Sales, Service, and Project Execution to develop, negotiate, and execute high-value contracts aligned with company risk thresholds and customer timelines.
  • Drive timely execution of customer contracts, ensuring that critical commercial terms, technical scope, and delivery commitments are clearly defined and agreed upon to enable smooth handoff to the execution team.
  • Drive development of complex proposal materials, ensuring content is tailored to address customer requirements, technical specifications, and value propositions.
  • Act as a strategic partner to Sales, contributing to opportunity qualification, solution positioning, and commercial strategy to maximize win probability and customer value.
  • Engage with key customers and strategic accounts, leading interactions related to RFP/RFI/RFQ processes, contract reviews, and technical clarifications; cultivate long-term customer relationships.
  • Spearhead the development of tailored technical and commercial solutions, proactively identifying customer pain points and aligning LGES Vertech's offerings to deliver optimal performance and value.
  • Lead pricing strategy and development for large-scale proposals, coordinating with cross-functional teams-including Korean-based stakeholders-to align on cost, margin, delivery timelines, and product availability.
  • Represent LGES Vertech in customer engagements, including formal presentations, technical Q&A sessions, and contract negotiations.
  • Provide leadership to other proposal team members, contributing to team capability building, process optimization, and knowledge sharing.
  • Support Sales leadership in driving commercial best practices, analytics, and lessons learned to continuously improve competitiveness and execution excellence.

Key Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Attitudes

The Commercial Manager will need to manage all the commercial aspects of the sales process. The candidate will work closely with the sales team to secure new business. The candidate will be expected to actively participate in day-to-day sales activities. As the liaison between the sales team and sales engineering, the candidate must bridge the gap between a successful commercial solution and a successful technical solution. In order to thrive in this role, the candidate will bring a working knowledge of the electric power industry from both a products perspective and a customer requirements perspective.

Education/Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial management, contract management, proposal development, pricing strategy, or sales support
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field (Master's/MBA preferred roles)
  • Proven track record leading deal teams and negotiating complex contracts
  • Experience writing complex utility scale proposals
  • Experience with RFP/RFQ processes, contract review, and risk analysis
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical issues
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize time with minimal supervision
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced work environment
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
