Description of Job
ITS Division

The Information Technology Services (ITS) Division provides information systems and computer support for employees, customers of the Department of State, and therefore the people of Colorado. Much of the work completed by the division can be done remotely, contributing to the positive work-life balance of its employees. The Colorado Department of State is unique from many state agencies in that we are a smaller agency with an in-house ITS division, as a result our employees maintain greater collective impact over the work product of the Department.

As one of the few state agencies with a fully in-house ITS Division, the Colorado Department of State provides a unique environment where technology leadership directly influences statewide services and supports multiple critical systems for the State of Colorado.
IT Infrastructure and Operations Unit

Oversee and support information systems, including cloud infrastructure, network, servers, workstations, software, application development, and data services to support the Colorado Department of State (CDOS) staff, as well as the citizens of Colorado. IT staff ensures that the cybersecurity tenants of confidentiality, integrity, and availability are integrated throughout the infrastructure.
This includes infrastructure design and management of network, virtualization, and Azure cloud services. The unit maintains system hardware, software, and peripherals. Staff procures, installs, upgrades, enhances, and maintains computer applications and system software to support the Department. The work unit maintains desktop computer services, including peripherals on both individual workstations and back-end office systems.
Unit staff procures, configures, secures, installs, upgrades, enhances, and maintains the domain, including, but not limited to, domain controllers, file server(s), print server(s), mail server(s), accounting system server(s), domain database server(s), phone system server(s), utility server(s), etc. The unit ensures secure design, implementation, vulnerability management, and patching of systems is a top priority. All of these actions are performed as soon as possible within budgetary and legislative guidelines.

This position will:
  • Direct and supervise the engineering team that supports the Department's hybrid infrastructure.
  • Provide infrastructure design and systems management.
  • Provide cloud infrastructure design and implementation.
  • Provide operational management and customer support.
  • Provide DevSecOps support through collaboration and communication.
  • Provide disaster recovery management.
  • Complete professional development to enhance knowledge of role.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires a total of six (6) years of relevant professional experience and/or education as outlined below. To be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate that you meet one of the following options outlined below:

OPTION 1 - Experience

Six (6) years of professional experience in maintaining enterprise systems, which includes virtualization platforms, servers, Azure cloud infrastructure, and disaster recovery while overseeing system security, system performance, and resolving outages, one (1) year of which must be at the level of a work leader, staff authority, or unit supervisor in a role related to this position.

OPTION 2 - Experience and/or Education -Be sure you've attached a copy of your unofficial transcript to qualify for this option. (You may redact information that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.)
A combination of related education and/or relevant experience as defined in Option 1 to equal six (6) years. Related education includes accredited coursework in cloud management, information technology, computer science, information systems, network engineering, network administration, cybersecurity, or a closely related field.

Please note that education will not substitute for the required one (1) year of professional experience at the level of a work leader, staff authority, or unit supervisor in a role related to this position.

  • Professional experience in IT infrastructure, Azure cloud architecture, network administration, systems engineering, and IT operations.
  • Professional experience leading and developing technical teams, including systems administrators, network engineers, or IT Infrastructure engineers.
  • Professional experience managing enterprise infrastructure environments, including servers, storage, virtualization platforms, Azure multi-region platforms, and network architecture.
  • Professional experience administering or supporting Azure cloud infrastructure while maintaining disaster recovery environments.
  • Professional experience implementing or managing IT service management (ITSM) frameworks, such as incidents, change management, and problem management processes.
  • Professional experience developing and maintaining disaster recovery and business continuity plans, including backup and recovery strategies, testing, and documentation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices, vulnerability/patch management, and infrastructure security controls.
  • Professional experience managing and architecting large-scale technology projects, including infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and data center modernization.
  • Professional experience managing IT budgets, procurement, and vendor relationships, including contract oversight and technology lifecycle planning.
  • Familiarity with government, public sector, or regulated environments, including compliance and audit requirements.
