JOB SUMMARY Provides leadership and oversight for daily department operations as designated by the Department Director for two or more locations and/ or more than three (3.0 FTE) providers. Ensures quality of delivered patient care by collaborating intra/interdepartmentally with staff, directors, physicians, administration and others. Participates in patient care activities both directly and indirectly as a resource to staff members. Delivers direct/indirect patient care utilizing the nursing process or designated scope of practice through data collection and assessment; identification and prioritization of patient's problems and needs; and development/implementation/evaluation of a nursing plan of care (RN). Demonstrates critical thinking to assure the delivery of safe, quality age specific care. Delegates effectively to appropriate team members. Documents accurately and in a timely manner. Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare team members. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory/ accrediting body requirements; and professional practice standards.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES - Provides leadership and supervision for the assessment, development, implementation, and evaluation of safe, cost-effective direct and indirect care delivered within the department under the supervision of the Department Director.
- Ensures appropriate staffing levels and adjusts staffing to meet high and low census demands.
- Develops/assists in the review and revision of hospital/ division/ department policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Assists to integrate best practices in the care delivery for the department.
- Assists to assess and address competencies of staff.
- Identifies education and staff development needs of team members.
- Provides input and feedback on items for staff meetings.
- Acts as a clinical and technical resource for team members.
- Represents department and/or hospital on appropriate internal/ external committees and functions.
- Assesses/reassesses patient's condition based upon observation of patient and interview of patient and/or family, physician's diagnosis and data, diagnostic results, and relevant data from other healthcare providers.
- Uses professional knowledge to develop/ revise nursing plans of care for assigned patients according to department guidelines and criteria with expected outcomes.
- Delivers safe nursing interventions in an organized, efficient, and prioritized manner to address identified needs.
- Evaluates/re-evaluates patient's response to nursing interventions and patient's progress to QI expected outcome(s).
- Collaborates and communicates effectively with team members, physicians, and other healthcare providers to coordinate the medical and nursing plans of care.
- Facilitates and coordinates department/office functions among team members through direction, delegation, and assignment.
- Facilitates critical thinking, decision-making and problem-resolution among team members.
- Delegates responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Documents all aspects of patient care and maintains patient records, and medication reconciliation in a timely manner as appropriate for unit.
- Provides patients and family members with relevant health care education and instructions regarding treatments and procedures including pre/post hospital care as appropriate.
- Assists in the orientation and training of new and tenured personnel, reassigned nurses, student nurses and faculty; serves as a preceptor when requested.
- Demonstrates knowledge of disaster/emergency procedures and responds appropriately.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual knowledge, skills, performance and behavior in accordance with hospital, division, and department standards of care and policies and procedures.
Requirements Include - Graduate of an accredited program for nursing education, BSN preferred.
- Current licensure to practice professional Nursing in the State of Ohio.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required.
- Previous charge/supervisory or management experience preferred
- Specialty is preferred; in Medical Clinic area and Joint Commission knowledge.
