Job Description:

Altera is seeking a visionary and business-oriented Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to lead the company's global cybersecurity strategy, governance, risk management, security operations, and compliance programs. Reporting to a senior executive leader, the CISO will be responsible for protecting Altera's information assets, technology platforms, intellectual property, products, and global operations while enabling business growth and innovation.

As Altera continues its transformation as an independent semiconductor company, the CISO will play a critical leadership role in strengthening enterprise security capabilities, supporting regulatory and customer requirements, preparing for future corporate milestones, and building a security-first culture across the organization.

The successful candidate will bring deep cybersecurity expertise, strong executive leadership experience, and the ability to partner effectively across business, engineering, IT, legal, compliance, and operational teams.

What You Will Do

Cybersecurity Strategy & Leadership
  • Define and execute Altera's enterprise cybersecurity vision, strategy, and roadmap.
  • Build and lead a high-performing global security organization across cybersecurity, governance, risk, compliance, security operations, and product security.
  • Develop security strategies that enable business growth while effectively managing risk.
  • Serve as the executive security advisor to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.
  • Foster a strong security culture through awareness, training, and executive engagement.


Enterprise Security & Risk Management
  • Lead enterprise-wide cybersecurity risk management and governance programs.
  • Establish security policies, standards, controls, and frameworks aligned with business objectives.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across corporate, cloud, manufacturing, and engineering environments.
  • Develop and maintain security metrics, reporting, and risk dashboards for executive leadership.


Security Operations & Incident Response
  • Oversee security monitoring, detection, threat intelligence, incident response, and cyber resilience capabilities.
  • Ensure effective processes for identifying, containing, investigating, and remediating cybersecurity incidents.
  • Lead crisis management activities related to cybersecurity events.
  • Strengthen vulnerability management and proactive threat mitigation programs.


Product Security & Intellectual Property Protection
  • Partner with engineering teams to embed security throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Establish secure development practices and product security requirements.
  • Protect Altera's intellectual property, semiconductor technologies, and critical engineering assets.
  • Support security requirements for FPGA products, software solutions, and customer-facing technologies.


Compliance, Governance & Regulatory Requirements
  • Drive compliance with applicable security, privacy, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support customer security audits, assessments, and contractual obligations.
  • Lead internal and external security audits.
  • Strengthen governance frameworks, controls, and cybersecurity maturity.


Cloud & Infrastructure Security
  • Lead security strategy for cloud platforms, enterprise applications, infrastructure, and identity services.
  • Ensure effective implementation of zero-trust principles and modern security architectures.
  • Oversee third-party risk management and vendor security programs.


Business Transformation & Corporate Readiness
  • Support Altera's continued evolution as an independent company.
  • Ensure security capabilities scale with company growth, acquisitions, geographic expansion, and future corporate milestones.
  • Partner with Finance, Legal, HR, IT, and Operations to support governance and risk management objectives.


The pay range below is for Bay Area California only. Actual salary may vary based on a number of factors including job location, job-related knowledge, skills, experiences, trainings, etc. We also offer incentive opportunities that reward employees based on individual and company performance.

$300.0K - $370.0K USD

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field.
  • 15+ years of progressive cybersecurity leadership experience.
  • 10+ years of experience leading global security organizations and senior security leaders.
  • Proven success developing and executing enterprise cybersecurity strategies.
  • Experience leading Security Operations, Incident Response, Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC), Identity & Access Management, and Product Security programs.
  • Deep understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and security governance.
  • Experience presenting security strategy, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership and Boards of Directors.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to align security investments with organizational objectives.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience within semiconductor, hardware, technology, manufacturing, or critical infrastructure industries.
  • Familiarity with FPGA, embedded systems, hardware security, and secure product development practices.
  • Prior experience supporting public company environments, IPO readiness, or large-scale corporate transformations.
  • Experience with cloud security across major cloud providers.
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CRISC, GIAC, or equivalent.
