POSITION SUMMARY

FLA seeks a Chief of Staff, who will facilitate day-to-day coordination across the organization, manage targeted initiatives, and help ensure that the President and CEO's time, attention, and leadership are focused on the FLA's highest-value priorities. Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Chief of Staff will facilitate coordination across the leadership team, maximizing the team's effectiveness; structure decision processes; manage information flow; and steward strong connection across the executive office, programmatic areas, finance, operations, and communications.

This is a Level 6 position that can be performed remotely from any location in the U.S. Travel is required 4-6 times per year for internal and external events and conferences. The salary range for this position is $128-142K depending on experience.

KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
  • Assist the President and CEO in managing day-to-day operations of the organization and strategically allocating time. Work with the President and CEO's executive assistant to ensure his calendar, engagements, travel, and preparation reflect organizational priorities and are appropriately sequenced and advanced.
  • Facilitate communication among the senior leadership to promote collaboration, coordination, integration, and productivity across the organization. Partner closely with the President and CEO to shape priorities, anticipate challenges, and support effective leadership across the team. Work closely with the President and CEO to design and facilitate effective leadership team and senior leadership team meetings that reinforce shared goals, trust, and disciplined execution.
  • Manage the planning, preparation, and execution of FLA Board of Directors meetings, including coordinating with all teams on calendar of deadlines, written materials to be provided to the board, content of meetings, communications about meetings, and identification of special guests. Partner with the Board Liaison to provide strategic direction and coordination for board and committee relations, ensuring alignment among governance engagement, organizational priorities, and the President and CEO's agenda.
  • Ensure decisions, context, and follow-up are communicated clearly, reducing ambiguity and duplication, including the successful communication of institution-wide projects to staff and stakeholders. Represent the FLA in external meetings.
  • Set clear priorities, workflows, and quality standards for the executive office to ensure consistent excellence in interaction between the office and the rest of the organization and key external stakeholders. Plan and direct the operations, staffing, and budget for the executive office.
  • Other duties as assigned by the President and CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Strong commitment to FLA's mission.
  • Significant senior-level experience, ideally in mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated success advising top executives and managing conflicting priorities without direct authority.
  • Exceptional judgment, analytical ability, and written and verbal communication skills; ability to think and communicate clearly and concisely.
  • Exceptional ability to manage processes and master details.
  • Proven ability to operate with discretion, influence outcomes, and navigate ambiguity.
  • Relevant experience and expertise, including an understanding of key issues FLA addresses and the global nature of FLA's work.
