Chief of Staff

The successful candidate:

The Chief of Staff provides executive-level management and strategic support, advice, thought partnership and consultation to the Market President - Atlanta. The person selected for this role is responsible for cross-functional organization and management of the Office of the President.

The Chief of Staff (COS) will conceptualize and lead key processes and programs that support an organization-wide focus on collaboration, efficiencies, and outcomes. By providing expertise and leadership to the day-to-day operations of the Office of the President (OP), coordination of communication between the OP and business units reporting to the president, managing OP internal and external relationships. The position works closely with executive-level leadership and key stakeholders across the COH enterprise. This role also frequently interfaces and actively engages with executives within external companies on behalf of the President to appropriately advance COH's goals and objectives.

Specific Duties:

Oversee and facilitate the Office of the President of City of Hope Atlanta
  • Leads the day-to-day operation of the Office of the President.
  • Monitors team assignments and ongoing work to ensure timely and appropriate action.
  • Executive-level liaison with external companies as required in support of the President.
  • Advises and contributes in structuring identified and unidentified issues for resolution.
  • Recommend courses of action related to identified issues.
  • Manages all status reports associated with assigned projects.
  • Handles the creation of board decks across the Office for all committees and boards.
  • Prioritizes access to the President's schedule in line with the strategic priorities of COH-Atlanta.


Information and Communication Management
  • Promotes the timely flow of information to and from the President.
  • Manage internal, external, and press communications on behalf of president in accordance with organizational protocols when appropriate. Ensure that staff are trained in and follow organizational and cultural communication protocols.
  • Develops appropriate executive-level content necessary for President to present at external conferences/meetings.
  • Research and prepare briefs and background reports on external contacts and organizations to ensure president is prepared for meetings and decision-making.
  • Manages work of outside consultants when needed in support of assigned projects. This oversight includes development of consultant/contractor SOWs, contract negotiation and development, and performing necessary performance management to ensure project success within defined cost parameters.


Prepares and delivers reports with analysis, recommendations and action plans
  • Demonstrates strong executive-level preparation skills.
  • Researches, organizes and summarizes data for special projects.
  • Analyzes data for trends or conclusions and presents results and recommendations with subsequent action plans as necessary.
  • Consults on business planning and ROI analysis for assigned projects.


Supports leadership within the Office of the President on the implementation of key institutional strategic projects and programs
  • Support the president in identifying, analyzing and executing critical company initiatives/projects.
  • Contributes to defining objective, scope, internal requirements, key steps and timing.
  • Support president by monitoring and overseeing key organizational initiatives. Plans, designs, develops, schedules and organizes people/resources (internal and external) to meet project objectives based on proposed activities and timelines.
  • Monitors and communicates the progress of work performed across all levels, ensuring organization is meeting and/or complying with critical deadlines.
  • Works with key internal/external stakeholders.
  • Prepares executive-level status reports on project plans, progress and results of activities.
  • Leads implementation, as assigned


Process development and implementation
  • Designs and develops systems, processes, and communications to enable senior and executive management to meet the mission and strategic priorities of the enterprise.
  • Collaborate with executive team on key project decisions, including (but not limited to) creating operational systems, properly staffing them, developing key metrics to support the division/organizational goals, and ensuring training and support for new staff.
  • Coordinate with human resources and recruiters on staffing and recruitment of critical roles within City of Hope Atlanta.

  • Overseeing the development of new training and onboarding materials, and ensuring all team members are properly oriented and are complying with critical deadlines.
  • Manages all administrative personnel within the President's Office.


Business Development
  • Oversees key functions related to business development and the cultivation of referring physician relationships
  • Partner with the president and executive leadership to develop and execute business development strategies that drive growth, expand market presence, and increase patient volumes
  • Analyzes market trends, program performance, member engagement, and growth metrics to identify expansion opportunities, optimize business development strategies, and drive sustainable volume growth
  • Develops executive-level business cases, board presentations, and strategic growth plans that support investment decisions, service line expansion, and organizational priorities
  • Serves as the initial contact for business development opportunities to vet the proposed partnership, evaluate feasibility and develop go forward strategy accordingly
  • Works collaboratively with internal and external teams to evaluate and lead the due diligence, analysis and development of potential mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, new business and market expansion opportunities in healthcare.


Personnel Management
  • Identifies, recruits and retains the highest caliber staff to support the operations of COH-Atlanta.
  • Encourages and recognizes performance, effective decision-making and collaboration.
  • Promotes workforce engagement and collaboration within COH-Atlanta and across the enterprise working closely with enterprise Operations, HR, Transformation and other areas to ensure COH "one enterprise" culture is embraced and demonstrated.


Requirements:
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Business Administration, Economics, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, Public Policy, Public Health or other related field
  • Minimum of 8 years' experience as part of a senior leadership team managing projects and strategic initiatives.


City of Hope employees pay is based on the following criteria: work experience, qualifications, and work location.

This position is eligible for an annual incentive bonus.
