Job Summary

  • The Chief of Hospital Medicine works in a dyad leadership model with the Hospitalist Administrative Director to provide leadership, direction, and oversight for the CAMC Hospital Medicine Program.
  • This physician leader is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered inpatient care while advancing clinical excellence, operational efficiency, quality improvement, physician engagement, and strategic growth.
  • Collaborates with hospital administration, medical staff, nursing leadership, and multidisciplinary teams to achieve organizational goals and improve patient outcomes.


Provide Hospitalist services to the patients of the Charleston Area Medical Center, Inc and its affiliates per the terms of the contract.
Responsibilities
• Provide care to CAMC patients in the field of Hospitalist Medicine in compliance with the highest standards of medical art and science. Such care will be delivered in the appropriate setting and coordinated with the staff present at each site. The physician will take the lead in all patient care issues and will be ultimately responsible for the outcome of the encounter.
• Adhere to all applicable organizational and departmental policies and procedures
• With regard to issues of clinical practice the physician with will report to the Hospitalist Medical Director in collaboration with the assigned associate administrator/administrator. Employment matters within CAMC, chain of command is President and Physician Administrator. Medical Affairs matters report to CAMC VPMA and CMO
• Employee will maintain active status (category I) with regards to clinical privileges at CAMC
• Must be able to relate appropriately with patients, staff, corporate management, medical staff and co-workers. Must be a team player. Must remain current in medical/surgical knowledge as well as applicable legal and regulatory issues.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
