What this job involves:

As the Chief Engineer, Electrical for a premier healthcare client account, you will hold ultimate responsibility for the reliability, safety, and compliance of the hospital's complex electrical infrastructure. This role oversees essential life-safety power systems, emergency generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), and high-voltage distribution networks to ensure uninterrupted clinical operations and patient care.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Direct the operational testing, maintenance, and repair of the hospital's electrical distribution systems, emergency generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and parallel switchgear to guarantee constant emergency power readiness.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of electrical technicians and shift engineers, fostering an environment where we believe the most effective teams are built when everyone is empowered to thrive.

  • We embrace more innovative ways of working and prioritize opportunities to strengthen and advance your career by providing continuous training on the latest electrical safety standards and advanced building technologies.

  • Ensure strict compliance with healthcare regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, NFPA 70E (Electrical Safety in the Workplace), NFPA 99 (Health Care Facilities Code), and NEC guidelines.

  • Manage the preventative and predictive maintenance schedules for all electrical assets utilizing the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to optimize equipment lifespans.

  • Coordinate closely with hospital clinical staff, administration, and external utility providers to plan, schedule, and safely execute critical electrical shutdowns and system upgrades with zero impact on patient care.

  • Lead investigations into electrical system anomalies or power quality issues, conducting root-cause analyses and implementing corrective measures to mitigate future risks.

  • Oversee departmental budgets, vendor contracts, and the procurement of critical spare parts, while identifying opportunities for energy conservation and electrical efficiency improvements.

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in electrical systems operation and maintenance within a large commercial or industrial facility, with at least 5 years of leadership experience in a healthcare or hospital setting.

  • Proven knowledge of regulatory compliance codes specific to healthcare, including NFPA 70E, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, and Joint Commission standards.

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret complex electrical one-line diagrams, schematic drawings, and building specifications.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of managing technical teams and collaborating with multi-disciplinary stakeholders under pressure.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Facilities Management, or a closely related technical discipline.

  • Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) or Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) credential.

  • Active membership or certification with the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA) or the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

  • We choose to take the more inspiring, innovative, and optimistic path on our journey toward success, so experience implementing smart-grid technologies, renewable energy integration, or advanced microgrid systems is highly desirable.
