Full Job Description
The Chief Electrical Inspector oversees all electrical inspection activities across the full lifecycle of construction, ensuring compliance with the Florida Building Code (FBC), National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable local regulations. This role directs electrical inspection staff, serves as the Division's primary authority on electrical code interpretation, and plays a key role in advancing operational excellence and customer-focused service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide visionary leadership and daily oversight of the electrical inspection team, promoting a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Plan, assign, supervise, mentor, and evaluate inspectors, emphasizing professional development, coaching, and succession planning.
  • Serve as the County's lead expert on electrical code interpretation, offering clear, consistent, and defensible guidance on complex issues.
  • Oversee and participate in inspections of electrical systems to ensure compliance with the FBC, NEC, and local ordinances.
  • Review and approve inspection reports, permits, and documentation with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and transparency.
  • Foster strong working relationships with contractors, engineers, design professionals, and the public, resolving issues through collaboration, diplomacy, and solution-oriented thinking.
  • Support plan review functions, field evaluations, and investigations related to complaints, violations, or incidents.
  • Develop, refine, and implement policies, procedures, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and service delivery.
  • Champion customer service excellence, ensuring interactions are professional, respectful, and responsive.

QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires qualified applicants to possess the following:

  • Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of ten (10) years of combined experience in electrical construction work as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Code Official, Contractor, Construction Superintendent, Inspector or Trades Worker with five (5) years of experience in supervisory work AND two (2) years of experience in electrical construction inspections or electrical construction plans examining.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Qualified applicants MUST possess the following at time of application :

  • Two (2) Standard Certifications, including one (1) as Electrical Inspector and one (1) as Electrical Plans Examiner.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications include:
  • Possession of a Master Electrician credential and five (5) years of experience with commercial multi-phase electrical installations over 1000 amperes.
