Job Description

The MTE group is responsible for equipment reliability improvement, process improvement, equipment troubleshooting and upgrade support, automation and smart manufacturing, standard practice implementation, and major capital projects. This is a key role in the global Manufacturing, Technology, and Engineering Team within the Rolled Products business group of Arconic Corp. This business group has several domestic and international manufacturing facilities the Chief Electrical will support. The incumbent will be required to act with a high degree of autonomy in the performance of assignments.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:
  • Lead the Arconic wide Electrical Engineering Network in addition to directly supervising MTE engineers/techs. Including, looking after the succession planning and development of the Electrical Engineering network.
  • Own the Corporate Standards with respect to Electrical Systems and Electrical Safety
  • Provide foundational expertise on control system related to the metals industry (rolling, coiling, leveling, strip conveyance and other)
  • Provide electrical engineering support and leadership to direct and sustain production operation and equipment maintenance for the rolling and finishing facilities within Arconic.
  • Support or lead the appropriate problem solving for significant electrical related downtime events.
  • Specific expertise and responsibilities:
    • Variable speed AC and DC Drive systems above 1000hp.
    • DC Motor maintenance, overhaul and rebuilding.
    • Medium and low voltage power systems in concert with established power engineers.
    • Automation equipment, process computers, programmable logic controllers.
    • Process networking (OT) and interfacing.
  • While is it not required that the candidate be an expert in all areas, they must be proficient in some and interested in learning the others.
  • The candidate will be called on to technically manage, and in some cases completely lead, projects of significant business impact or risk.
  • Provide on-site support for critical process or equipment problems at all locations.
  • Organizational and team building skills are highly valued, as the candidate will be faced with highly charged situations and project definition discussions where widely diverse opinions are present. Candidate must have the ability and consistency to consider differing options and direct the team to consensus, leading the effort as the situation demands.
  • Candidate will be involved in process, maintenance, and efficiency efforts using standardized tools of statistical process control, reliability excellence, and data analysis.


Also note:
  • While this role with have global responsibility, the home location is preferred to be located at our location in Davenport, IA.
  • Travel will be required by the successful candidate.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an accredited institution.
  • 15 years of electrical engineering experience within a metals or heavy manufacturing environment.
  • Electrical engineering experience with AC/DC Drive systems, AC/DC motor applications / maintenance / theory, control systems and automation.
  • Experience leading capital and expense projects in a factory environment.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. 7730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Authorizations from the relevant government agency may be required to meet export control compliance requirements.


Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading, managing and implementing electrical projects including design, installation, and commissioning.
  • Ability to oversee the activities of craft persons involved in the implementation of engineered solutions and maintenance activities. Ability to initiate and maintain an ongoing dialogue with personnel to identify issues, clarify requirements, and facilitate use of safe work practices, personal protective equipment, clearance / lock-tag-verify procedures.
  • Management of external vendors who provide electrical design and support functions
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment and with cross functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering, industry safety standards and related codes and specifications.
  • 20 years' experience and working knowledge of electrical systems and manufacturing processes and principles in a metals or heavy industry.
  • Experience in medium voltage distribution and transformer maintenance and applications.
  • Experience in estimating, justifying, managing, and installing capital projects.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering, industry safety standards and related codes and specifications.
  • Strong electrical engineering, maintenance and reliability background.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills.
  • Strong problem solving and creating thinking skills.
