The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $86,634.00 - 142,947/year. New hires are typically brought into the organization with a starting pay between $86,634.00 – 125,000/year. Location & Schedule
This position is in office full time, 5 days per week, and is located at the Wellington Webb Building, located at 201 W Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80202.
Please note: Downtown parking expenses are the responsibility of the employee. CPD is seeking a skilled and experienced Chief Combination Inspector (Construction) to supervise Construction-trade inspectors engaged in performing multiple types of technical inspections. This position provides daily leadership, technical guidance, and code interpretation to ensure consistent enforcement of the Denver Building Code and applicable regulations.
The Chief Combination Inspector (Construction) is one of CPD’ s trade-specific Chief Combination Inspector roles, equivalent to the Chiefs for Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing. Each Chief oversees inspectors within a single discipline. This posting is specifically for the Construction trade.
Key responsibilities will include:
Provide daily leadership and technical guidance to Construction Combination Inspectors
Plan, assign, and evaluate work; establish unit goals and staff objectives
Provide official Construction code interpretation
Coordinate inspections with internal and external agencies
Serve on code committees; propose amendments
Supervise and train staff in Construction inspection procedures
Research new construction methods and recommend updates
Implement safety standards
Resolve operational issues
Document employee performance

Strong background in Construction/Building inspections
Experience supervising or mentoring inspectors
Ability to interpret construction plans
Knowledge of inspection methods and best practices
Proficiency with Accela, Workday, and Office 365

Required Minimum Qualifications
Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of inspection experience in three of the following inspection areas: structure building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical.
Education/Experience Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.
Requires one ICC Plan Review Certification (relevant to the specific opening).
Requires certification or licensure in at least four of the following areas:
• State of Colorado Electrical License or Master Electrician License
• State of Colorado Plumbing License or Master Plumbing License
• ICC Residential or Commercial Building Inspector
• ICC Residential or Commercial Mechanical Inspector
• ICC Residential or Commercial Plumbing Inspector
• ICC Residential or Commercial Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner
• CACEO Level 1 and Level 2
• Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner
• Other applicable certifications based on the needs of the department
OR
• ICC Residential or Commercial Combination Inspector Certification
By position, additional licenses or certifications that are legally required to perform a specific position's duties and responsibilities may be required at the time of application or by the end of probation depending on the staffing needs of the hiring department or agency.
Licensure in another state with reciprocity may be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado licensure at completion of probation.
