Full Job Description
City of Hope is undergoing a transformative evolution of its commercialization and strategic partnerships organization to accelerate the translation of scientific innovation into impactful solutions for patients. As we build a more integrated and externally facing commercial engine, we are expanding capabilities across business development, venture creation, strategic partnerships, and innovation ecosystem development. The Chief Business Development Officer will lead the enterprise-wide business development function, driving strategic partnerships, licensing, venture creation, and corporate engagement efforts. This executive will build and lead a high-performing team focused on maximizing the translational, commercial, and patient impact of City of Hope's innovations, while positioning the organization as a premier partner across the life sciences industry.

As a successful candidate, you will:
  • Lead enterprise-wide business development and strategic partnership strategy aligned to commercialization and growth priorities
  • Source, evaluate, structure, and execute high-value transactions including licensing, partnerships, and venture financings
  • Serve as a senior relationship leader with pharma, biotech, venture capital, and strategic partners
  • Partner with scientific and clinical leaders to shape commercialization and development strategies
  • Build and scale a high-performing Business Development organization
  • Identify and execute new revenue opportunities across institutional capabilities and assets
  • Represent City of Hope at industry conferences, investor forums, and key strategic engagements
  • Establish operating models, KPIs, and pipeline management processes to drive performance
  • Advise executive leadership on market trends, partnerships, and long-term growth strategy


Your qualifications should include:
  • PhD with 15+ years of industry experience and MBA preferred, or Master's degree with MBA and 20+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industries
  • Extensive experience with licensing, strategic partnerships, alliance management, and venture creation
  • Exceptional negotiation, strategic thinking, financial evaluation, and relationship management skills
  • Experience in oncology, cell and gene therapy, diagnostics, precision medicine, or advanced therapeutics preferred
  • Proven ability to lead teams and influence at the executive level in complex environments
