The Chief Business Development Officer will lead the enterprise-wide business development function, driving strategic partnerships, licensing, venture creation, and corporate engagement efforts. This executive will build and lead a high-performing team focused on maximizing the translational, commercial, and patient impact of City of Hope's innovations, while positioning the organization as a premier partner across the life sciences industry.
As a successful candidate, you will:- Lead enterprise-wide business development and strategic partnership strategy aligned to commercialization and growth priorities
- Source, evaluate, structure, and execute high-value transactions including licensing, partnerships, and venture financings
- Serve as a senior relationship leader with pharma, biotech, venture capital, and strategic partners
- Partner with scientific and clinical leaders to shape commercialization and development strategies
- Build and scale a high-performing Business Development organization
- Identify and execute new revenue opportunities across institutional capabilities and assets
- Represent City of Hope at industry conferences, investor forums, and key strategic engagements
- Establish operating models, KPIs, and pipeline management processes to drive performance
- Advise executive leadership on market trends, partnerships, and long-term growth strategy
Your qualifications should include:- PhD with 15+ years of industry experience and MBA preferred, or Master's degree with MBA and 20+ years of experience
- Demonstrated leadership experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or life sciences industries
- Extensive experience with licensing, strategic partnerships, alliance management, and venture creation
- Exceptional negotiation, strategic thinking, financial evaluation, and relationship management skills
- Experience in oncology, cell and gene therapy, diagnostics, precision medicine, or advanced therapeutics preferred
- Proven ability to lead teams and influence at the executive level in complex environments
