Channel Contract Development Associate/Manager

Role Overview:

This is an opportunity to build a meaningful, fast-growing career at one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies. The Channel Contract Development Associate/Manager plays a central role in making Lilly its customers' preferred company while protecting shareholder value. This is achieved by effectively committing Lilly to channel contracts that balance risk and opportunity, and by drafting contractual documents that support deal structures customers clearly understand and value. The complex, rapidly changing healthcare environment requires the Channel Contract Development Associate/Manager to be a passionate, principled, agile performer who has a strong commitment for continuous learning and who is both accountable and adaptable as they work cross-functionally and proactively to lead Lilly's contracting process with distributors, pharmacies, and other channel partners involved in making product available to patients. Project management, prioritization, and contracting acumen, including keen attention-to-detail, customer service orientation and strong communication skills are critical in developing and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external customers and stakeholder teams. The ideal candidate is an ambitious, self-motivated, critical thinker who is skilled in legal document drafting and interpretation, issue-spotting, collaboration/teamwork and business process development. They must be comfortable interacting with and influencing all levels of audience and have a sharp focus for compliance, judgment, time management, problem-solving and building trust. Must be high-functioning, stress-tolerant and able to work in a sometimes variable, ambiguous, fast-paced, high-volume, demanding, deadline-driven environment with precision and continuous learning and improvement.

Summary of Job Responsibilities
  • Lead Lilly's contracting process with distributors, pharmacies, and other channel partners involved in making product available to patients; manage the full contracting life cycle for a defined customer population, participate in strategy development and governance, and apply quality document management practices throughout
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Lilly's and Lilly Value & Access's (LVA) vision, mission, and business strategies/goals; understand Lilly's products and pipeline and how they bring value to the customer; know Lilly's position in each Therapeutic Area and the supply chain for the continuum of therapies
  • Display knowledge of Lilly's competitors, including marketplace and customer-specific strategies and goals, competitive products and pipeline, and the value they bring to the customer
  • Demonstrate and effectively communicate deep knowledge of channel partner(s), including the business and regulatory environments they operate in, their business model, strategies and goals, their master contracts and amendments, and their downstream customers
  • Exhibit basic knowledge of business and contract law - anticipating, identifying, and appropriately mitigating potential contractual issues, and translating customer requirements into legal documents; know when to escalate to Legal for help
  • Work cross-functionally with Channel Account Advisors, Channel Deal Development, LVA Legal, various Contract Management & Analytics (CMA) stakeholder teams (e.g., Government Pricing and Contract Administration), various Functional Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) (e.g., Privacy, Global Patient Safety, AI, and US Distribution), and Brand teams regarding account approach, environment, contractual opportunities and risks, and building project plans to deliver quality legal documents on time
  • Create legal agreements by translating approvals into contracts that customers understand and appreciate and that protect Lilly's interests
  • Perform secondary review of legal documents created by Channel Management associates and provide relevant feedback; collaborate with cross-functional partners and teammates in management of customer deadlines
  • Develop mastery of the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) tool sufficient to assist with training stakeholders in basic functions and processes
  • Leverage AI tools and emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, contract lifecycle management AI features) to drive efficiency, accuracy, and consistency in contract drafting, review, and analysis; contribute to the team's evaluation, adoption, and refinement of AI-enabled workflows
  • Continuously seek opportunities to improve Lilly's people, systems, and processes; identify, test, measure, codify, and share key learnings while continually building contract-development, Channel Management, and healthcare/distribution acumen
  • Inspire confidence and build trust by consistently delivering timely, accurate results and proactively managing customer contracting needs
  • Operate with a team-first mindset, recognizing that the agile nature of the team requires fluid responsibilities and overlapping workstreams; willingly cross-cover, share knowledge, and step into adjacent work to ensure team-level deliverables are met regardless of individual portfolio assignment


Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree, preferably a degree that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving (e.g., Legal, Business, Engineering, Finance)

Additional Qualifications/Skills/Preferences
  • Prior contracting, contract administration, paralegal, or legal support experience, ideally within healthcare, pharmaceutical, distribution, or retail/channel environments
  • Commercial pharmaceutical, distributor, wholesaler, or pharmacy channel experience
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or other advanced degree (preferred but not required)
  • Demonstrated proficiency leveraging AI tools (e.g., generative AI, contract lifecycle management AI features) to drive efficiency in contract drafting, review, or analysis
  • Experience contributing to AI tool development, prompt engineering, or AI-enabled workflow design
  • Experience or coursework that clearly demonstrates analytical and/or contracting capabilities
  • Professional experience in a field demonstrating project management, legal or contract acumen, or analytical reasoning
  • Superior attention-to-detail, including detailed and accurate proofreading ability, catching/correcting subtle, nuanced discrepancies buried within large volumes of contract language and/or financial data tables
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to prioritize quickly and deliberately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the tenacity needed to pursue and provide clarity in a rapidly evolving field
  • Effective communicator - outstanding written and verbal skills
  • Technically inclined sufficiently to navigate various online customer submission portals and well-versed with drafting in and using all Microsoft Office tool
  • History of ownership and accountability for work product

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate's education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$60,000 - $143,000

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
