Full Job Description
SIA is seeking an experienced Cathodic Protection (CP) Technician to support a growing field backlog. This role is field-forward and hands-on: the right candidate is someone who can mobilize to a client site, execute complex CP testing and troubleshooting work competently and independently, and produce defensible data and reports. While the position primarily supports nuclear clients, prior nuclear experience is not required as strong CP fundamentals from any complex industrial setting (power, petrochemical, midstream, terminals, refining, large-scale industrial sites) translate directly.

This position is based in our Denver, CO office. Candidates must be willing and able to relocate to the Denver metro area; relocation assistance is provided. Outside of travel, the schedule is hybrid and flexible, there is no mandated in-office cadence, and the individual sets their own balance between home and office work.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Conduct specialized corrosion and cathodic protection surveys; analyze data and produce field reports. Engineering support is available for formal report development, but candidates who can independently draft client-ready technical reports are strongly preferred.
  • Assess and troubleshoot existing impressed-current and galvanic CP systems; recommend repairs and improvements.
  • Support the design, installation, commissioning, testing, and maintenance of CP systems in plant environments with complex underground piping networks.
  • Provide scope and pricing input for CP-related client proposals in coordination with project and client managers.
  • Support or present at industry meetings (AMPP, NACE-affiliated events, EPRI, industry working groups) on CP best practices and methodology.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of SIA's internal CP data management tools.
  • Apply human performance fundamentals and a strong safety mindset on every site assignment; nuclear-site work in particular demands rigorous adherence to procedure use, peer checks, and error-prevention tools.
  • Travel 40-60%, typically in one- to two-week intervals, with occasional longer-duration assignments.

Required Skills/Qualifications:
  • AMPP (formerly NACE) CP Level II certification at hire. Equivalent demonstrable experience may be considered, but the candidate must be capable of testing into CP II within the first review cycle.
  • 2+ years of field experience in CP testing and troubleshooting; 5+ years strongly preferred.
  • CP experience in plant, station, terminal, or other complex industrial environments - i.e., environments with congested underground piping, multiple structures, foreign-line interference, and AC/DC stray current considerations.
  • Ability to plan and execute field assignments independently, including writing or adapting test procedures for site-specific conditions.
  • Strong oral and written communication; the role requires direct client interface and the production of formal deliverables.
  • Strong problem identification and resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated safety consciousness and attention to error-prevention; comfortable working under formal procedure-use, configuration-control, and FME-style work environments.
  • Self-starter who can manage their own schedule across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel in particular).
  • Project management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • AMPP CP Level III (Technologist) or CP Specialist.
  • Degree in engineering or physical-science discipline.
  • Prior experience at nuclear, fossil, or hydro generating stations.
  • Experience with onsite leadership of multi-discipline field projects.
  • Familiarity with CP data management platforms.
  • Programming (Python, LabView)

Pay Range:
The expected salary range for this role in Denver, CO is $71,960 to $91,200 annually. Exact pay will be commensurate with experience.
