Position Description:

Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Process Operations General Supervisor at our Carlin operations. The successful candidate will lead a team of front-line supervisors in the safe operation of processing facilities, directing, and controlling activities to ensure efficiency and optimal metal recovery. Reporting to the Operations Superintendent, the General Supervisor prioritizes people development, employee engagement and effective performance management to deliver on our commitments in the dimensions of Health and Safety, Environment, Production and Cost. As a key agent of change in the Autoclave operating team, the General Supervisor collaborates across departments and support functions to manage complexity and ensure successful implementation of projects and initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement effective performance management and communication routines across the team and ensure their quality at the crew-level. Standardize the tools and methods of performance management to support the engagement and development of workers in pursuit of operational objectives.
  • Develop an engaged and technically competent team that will continuously improve the process operation and be successful. Create and implement training and development plans for supervisors. Provide coaching and mentoring to leaders-in-development and participate in management line-of-progression planning. Support feedback and review processes for front-line workers.
  • Demonstrate a strong personal commitment to Health & Safety and to the Environment. Build capacity for effective risk management at the front line through Visible Felt Leadership. Champion NGM's Zero Harm Workplace DNA by ensuring that problems are exposed, learning opportunities are identified and controls are strengthened to safeguard life and health. Conduct field audit and inspection processes with supervisors to verify and to coach.
  • Ensure compliance across the processing facility with state and federal health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures and the company's environmental compliance policy. Execute the monitoring and assurance processes stipulated in permit requirements and ISO 14001 & 45001 management systems.
  • Support the monitoring and verification of critical controls pertaining to facility risks and major unwanted events (e.g., fire, chemical spill, etc.). Work with the Emergency Response Team and Plant Leadership in conducting exercises and drills in support of the Emergency Response Plan. Support the supervisors in responding to actual emergencies.
  • Review and approve all process standard operating procedures relevant to the operating area and develop verification processes to assure quality execution and effective plant operation. Assist in developing departmental procedures and policies.
  • Support the supervisors' plant troubleshooting activities with direct technical input and escalate problems as appropriate.
  • Ensure the effectiveness of work identification and prioritization and engage the Maintenance team in the scheduling process as part of work management. Ensure effective day-to-day coordination of maintenance and operations activities by the supervisors to enable execution of planned maintenance in compliance to schedule. Support problem solving, failure analysis and corrective maintenance processes to improve plant reliability and safeguard equipment.
  • Work with team members across other departments and support functions, including HR, Safety and Health, Environment, Metallurgy, Supply Chain, Surface Operations, Engineering and others to ensure safe, efficient operations in line with our DNA.
  • Assist the Operations Superintendent with planning and preparation of cost budgets and forecasts. Monitor spending and ensure variances to plan are clearly communicated and effectively managed.
  • Perform the function of Owners Representative in the implementation of operational capital projects and other new installations, including input into designs and risk reviews, operational support of construction activities, coordination of operational readiness activities, commissioning and start-up.
  • Participate in interviewing prospective employees, oversee and approve selection of new hire candidates for Operator roles. Oversee site-specific orientation for new hires or transfers and oversee new hire training.
  • Conduct or assist with investigations as needed, in close collaboration with the HRBP, and administer discipline where required. Support and coach supervisors in their implementation of the corrective action policy.
  • May be required to travel to other sites, domestic or foreign, to provide expertise and assistance to processing operations
  • Remain abreast of current developments in the mineral processing discipline through industry contacts and professional organizations. Implement best practices where applicable.
  • Other duties as assigned
