Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE

As Daymark's Medical Director for California, you will serve as the senior clinical leader for the market, setting the clinical vision and standard of care for patients with cancer in your region. You will operate in a dyad leadership model, partnering closely with the Market Operations Leader to combine clinical expertise and operational excellence to deliver on our mission. You are a practicing oncology physician who believes better is possible for patients with cancer, and who wants to help build a new model of value-based cancer care. This role reports directly to Daymark's CEO.
What You'll Do

You will lead our care team, uphold clinical policy and quality standards, and serve as the face of Daymark's clinical program with providers and health plan partners in California.
  • Market Leadership: You will launch Daymark's market in California alongside the VP of Market Operations and COO. Together, you'll establish and hold the team accountable to market-level KPIs and metrics spanning clinical outcomes, quality, enrollment, and patient experience. While the Market Operations Leader owns the market P&L, you share accountability for how the clinical model drives financial performance, including total-cost-of-care savings, reductions in avoidable acute-care utilization, and other key performance indicators .Collaborate on hiring, team management, and day-to-day operational leadership to develop a high-performing team and ensure clinical operations are both high quality and operationally sustainable.
  • Clinical Leadership: Uphold the care model and quality standards for the California market by championing a culture of excellence, continuous learning, and evidence-based practice across the care team. Serve as the collaborating physician of record for the market's Nurse Practitioners, consistent with California requirements, and provide clinical oversight and supervision for other clinical staff. Serve as the direct manager for one to two other market-based physicians. Clinical activities will account for up to 20% of your effort, including direct supportive oncology patient care, second opinions, clinical trial advisory, and documentation integrity. You will support complex or high-acuity patients and clinical escalations and will participate in remote supportive oncology on-call coverage as needed to support patients and the care team. Partner with Daymark's national leadership to refine and continuously improve our care model and contribute clinical expertise to the design of new programs, processes, and clinical workflows as Daymark scales.
  • Partnerships: Serve as Daymark's senior clinical representative to oncology practices, PCPs, health systems, and health plan partners in California, building trust and bringing clinical credibility. Represent Daymark in clinical case conferences and joint operating meetings with provider and payer partners.
What We Are Looking For
  • You are a board-certified physician (MD or DO) in medical, radiation, or surgical oncology, or a closely related specialty, with an active, unrestricted California medical license (or willingness to obtain one). Board certification is required. You have at least 5 years of experience practicing oncology, including direct patient care, and experience leading or supervising clinical teams, and are comfortable being accountable for the clinical performance of a market or practice. It's important that you're familiar with Palliative care and have an interest in becoming board certified in Palliative Care if you are not already.
  • You have experience with, or a strong interest in, value-based and/or virtual and at-home models of cancer care, and are motivated to help build a new standard of care rather than replicate the status quo. Familiarity with oncology value-based payment models such as the Oncology Care Model (OCM) and the Enhancing Oncology Model (EOM).
  • You know how to partner effectively with an operational counterpart, sharing accountability for outcomes while respecting the distinct clinical and operational lenses each of you brings. You use clinical and operational data to monitor outcomes, identify gaps, and drive continuous improvement.
  • You have excellent relationship management skills and can communicate effectively both internally with cross functional teams, and externally with our health plan and provider partners.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment and are energized by building and iterating on new clinical programs and processes. You are comfortable with technology, able to learn new systems and tools, and you think creatively about ways to leverage technology to improve care.
