The Opportunity

As Root continues to scale its Independent Agent channel, we are seeking a Business Development Manager to lead and develop a high-performing team of Business Development Representatives (BDRs). This leader will be responsible for driving agency acquisition through their team, optimizing agency onboarding processes, and elevating the engagement of Root's agency base. You will play a pivotal role in shaping strategy, coaching talent, and partnering cross-functionally to accelerate growth in the agency channel.

Salary Range: $104,900 - $131,200 (Eligible for Competitive Bonus & Equity Offering)

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Business Development Representatives responsible for agency outreach, appointment setting, and onboarding
  • Establish team goals, performance metrics, and accountability standards aligned with company growth objectives
  • Oversee outbound agency acquisition strategies, including call campaigns and market targeting
  • Ensure a seamless and efficient onboarding experience for newly appointed agencies
  • Partner with Business Development, Sales, Product, and Analytics teams to refine go-to-market strategies and improve conversion rates
  • Monitor team performance, analyze key metrics, and identify opportunities to improve productivity and outcomes
  • Drive consistency in messaging, training delivery, and agency engagement practices across the team
  • Support the execution of agency training programs and business reviews led by the team
  • Act as an escalation point for complex agency relationships and operational challenges
  • Gather and synthesize market and agent feedback to inform product, underwriting, and experience improvements
  • Develop and implement scalable processes, playbooks, and best practices for agency acquisition and onboarding
  • Leverage data and insights to optimize territory planning, outreach strategies, and partner performance
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement


What You Will Need to Succeed

  • 5+ years of experience in insurance, agency distribution, or business development, with prior people leadership experience preferred
  • Strong understanding of independent agency ecosystems and insurance product distribution
  • Proven ability to lead outbound sales or business development teams and drive measurable results
  • Experience building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams
  • Data-driven mindset with the ability to translate insights into action
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills in a matrixed environment
  • Excellent communication and leadership presence
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution
  • High level of professionalism, adaptability, and sound judgment
